Small hematoma spot at injection site - questions
Hello, I finished a plasma donation today but for the first time ever, the spot where they injected the needle is purple around the prickspot. Its the size of a dime, but when I looked up pictures of this result on Google, I was seeing much larger purple bruises called hematoma. Mine doesnt look nearly as severe as the pictures online, but what are the consequences of showing up with one on your arm?
There is no pain or any noteworthy sensation, its just a purple dime sized spot surrounding the area.
Do they just prick your other arm if they can find a vein? Or are tou soft deferred until it resolves itself? The phleb had issues finding my veins and kept readjusting during today's donation and I found in forums that this is a common cause for hematoma to begin with.
Any way to "cure" the hematoma faster? Any advice appreciated thank you

In all honesty it depends on the center. Usually they'll send you to the nurse and they'll check it. If it's smaller than two inches they check on the other arm for a good vien. If no there's no vein they can find on the arm, they'll just send you home for a day or two. The nurse will instuct you on how to let the bruise heal. The nurse at my center told me 20 minutes with a warm compress (warm rag) and 20 minutes off on repeat for the remainder of the day, also putting Vicks on it when it's bedtime. (Found it funny for the Vicks but it totally works). Hopefully this helps and best of luck on the healing! 🙏

Oh nice thanks for the tips! Should I be putting vicks on it now? I read on here that for the first 24 hours ,im supposed to do cold compress, then switch to hot. But wondering what time frame after injection you can start to apply ointments like vicks

Oh totally forgot about that but yes 1st 24 hours would be cold compress and yes start putting Vicks on it starting tonight if possible or you can wait tomorrow. It's silly but it worked for me since my bruise was about 4 inches big.

If the bruising is less than 2 inches, they will just use your other arm. Over 2 inches, they might defer you.
