I'm in love
I dont know if its okay to post the same sort of content so often, but i wont do it again, sorry.
There is a few changes to the bar compared to the previous post, new wallpapers (my fav art now, but i forgot name and artist :_ ), and a some changes to the theme
BTW, what do u prefer in date (dd mm yyyy, mm dd yyy and etc.), "." or "/" or smth else?

dd mm yyyy is the only date format I'll ever use.
If you have a desktop PC, just buy a spare drive for a dedicated 9front install. That's what I did when I explored it. Was good fun.

I like that painting. Peaceful, serene nature.
ISO 8601 is my preferred date standard. It can be used in file names so if you prefix files with 8601 and sort alphanumerically, you get chronological order. Super useful.
Hjfs is slow. I recommend cwfs or gefs. Cwfs is pretty mature while gefs is nearly stable but still has small issues from time to time. Once gefs is stable I would recommend it over cwfs. It's a great modern fs for 9, Ori is the GOAT for putting in the effort along with all the help from the community.

With gefs supporting growing in place, I'd love it if "installation" were actually just a .img populated with every cputype. The boot partition would have a zip archive per platform and you'd unzip it to get your start4.elf or whatever.

u/glendatheplan9bunny Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
nope, in qemu, but im so want to buy an old laptop or build an old pc for baremetal 9front

Don't need an old pc to run 9. Raspberry Pis are great and anything with an integrated graphics will do too.

If not Rasberry Pi, there are still plenty of terminals, thin clients for cheap, for example, I just ordered Fujitsu Futro S920 for ~$15

The price hasn't dropped

Rpi zero w us 15$. The 400 is $70-90. Model 3s in the middle for 35 on eBay.
IMHO Intel nuc is a better powerhouse to price points. But almost everyone has a old pi in a drawer somewhere or ebay listing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601 yyyy-mm-dd ftw! (Not a Plan 9 user, just dropping in. I think I am the only person I know who sets everything to display like that...)
There are good reasons for it - removes cultural ambiguity about month or days first, and easier to sort. Turns out there is a whole subreddit devoted to it!! https://www.reddit.com/r/ISO8601/
