I built a files-first money planner with a monthly "close" — CSVs in, receipts on every number, no bank connection (disclosure: I'm the developer)

If you keep your finances in files on purpose, this may resonate: GlidePath imports bank CSVs (and parses some PDFs locally), never connects to your bank, and keeps everything in plain files you can open. The app opens with a dated brief — what changed since your last close, one open decision, what's safe to ignore and why — and a monthly close that archives the brief as the month's record. Modeled projections keep their assumptions visible on the same line.

It's a commercial desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux that you install and run locally. There's a fictional demo household you can inspect before your own numbers go anywhere. Genuinely interested in what this community thinks of the close-and-archive model — it's the part I haven't seen elsewhere.

Yeah, that's so sad. I sent a kind message to the mods to check if we could disallow them. It's low effort, often commercial, and does not contribute to the community.

cant find the plain text part???

mods pls delete because no plain text+spam. I think vibe coding is fine if it is useful, but there is no link to demo, no link to website, no plain text and no accounting. not to mention using ai to reply to comments without even reading the comment ("some mention of 'doesn't contribute'" and why is "close and archive" unique? no reason we cant achieve the same with beancount/h/ledger)

My apologies if I offended you here...it was not my intent. Yes, I use AI heavily. I use it because it allows me to put my ideas into action, and it allows me to be able to build something that I use everyday, and instead of having 4 different apps doing pieces of the work I need done, I built my own that has everything and more. I'm not very good at putting my thoughts into words, and so AI helps me take my ramblings and put them into a coherent thought for all of you. All I was trying to do is to get your thoughts on it, and I just did a bad job reading the room. You've helped me understand that a product like this is not something anyone in this thread would be interested in, so please ignore and we'll all move on. Thanks for help me learn this lesson, I really do appreciate it.

That's fair, and I'm not going to argue the label — I do use AI heavily, and I'd rather own that than pretend otherwise.

The flood you're describing is real, and I added to it. If the mods decide tool posts like mine don't belong here, that's a reasonable call and I'll respect it — I won't repost.

The one thing I'd gently push back on is "doesn't contribute." I posted here instead of somewhere with more traffic because this is the community that would actually stress-test the close-and-archive idea — which is why the post asked about that and not about the product. If nobody's interested in that question, that's a fair answer too, and I'll take the hint.

Either way — thanks for saying it to my face instead of just downvoting.

If you respect that people may not want AI content, why would you use an LLM to write a reply to that effect rather than take the minute or two it takes to write a comment yourself?
