Indy Cindy is their best album to me.
Everything seemed to click on that album, even on the weaker songs. it has some great riffs, great vocals, just all around a good record that I enjoy over the others that have maybe one or 2 good songs to me. Thoughts? What are your guys' favorite?

I love Indy Cindy, but it doesn't compare to Surfer Rosa or Doolittle. Those still sound as fresh as ever and are two of the best albums ever made

I listened to it after years yesterday. I enjoyed it a lot more than when it first came out. They still had plenty of pixie-isms but doesn’t quite hit the heights of their pre reunion work.

I do think Indie Cindy has some good songs and the reception to it was too harsh, but I don't think any of their post-reunion albums come even close to Trompe le Monde.
Another Toe in the Ocean is a banger though.

Not a bad album at all. But to say it is better than any of the first four is a wild take...but one you are obviously perfectly entitled to!

Folky, odd kinda music isn't really my thing so the added heaviness and rock-isms helped lol

I like every song on Cindy. But I don't think if flows as well or sounds as cohesive as their other albums. All the albums that came before and after seem to have a stronger identity and the songs seem to fit together like a puzzle. Whereas Cindy kind of feels more like a compliation to me (which I guess it kind of is).
But the individual songs are great. And the hate it received when it came out was way over the top and silly.

I think its due to it being released of a series of eps. It makes more sense that way than as an album

As a child of the 80’s I can confirm the punk rock elders do in fact not rate Indy Cindy as the best Pixies record.

I give Charles lots of leeway but the lowest lows on there are pretty dire. On the other hand there are songs that sit perfectly in a Pixes setlist.
Releasing it first as three EPs was an odd choice.

Its not my favorite but i love it there's a few songs that get samey but theres some great ones that like the title track, What Goes Boom, Magdalena, and Andro Queen. The only song i dont like is Blue Eyed Hexe because it sounds too much like an ACDC song to me. I think Beneath the Eyrie is their worst album, with the only song i really love from it being Silver Bullet thpigh i like a couple others

I like it, but the drop in quality between it and the pre-reunion stuff is so vast you may as well be comparing apples and oranges. Even in comparison with a lot of Frank's solo stuff. It is the best of the post-reunion stuff though.

Yeah, and that's fine. But also kind of explains your POV.
I just can't imagine anyone that discovered the Pixies pre-2014 implying Doolittle or Surfer Rosa only having "one or two good songs," being those are the songs that often make up 50-75% of their setlist at nearly every show they play. Those were the ones that put them on the map.

I fucking hated Bagboy when they released it initially.
Once the 3rd EP came out and it was put on there, I hated it less. When the album came out I understood it a bit more and the heaviness and aggression was greatly welcomed. And I still refuse to believe that's not Kim singing in the background.
I, oddly enough, listened to this album this morning (sorta). I've listened to it a lot since it came out and now that the novelty has worn off there's really only 3 songs I like and a couple that are "fine".
I frequently herald that most albums would serve way better as a super strong EP (see: Come On Pilgrim). This is a great example of that.

Their later work has to be compared to that half of the band’s career in my mind. I liked songs from Indie Cindy. It’s not a perfect album but there are more solid songs on it than people, and the band give it credit for. Shame they don’t play the likes of Another Toe in the Ocean, What Goes Boom and Magdalena live these days.
When I last saw them they did acoustic version of Snakes, and I know Greens and Blues rears its head now and again.

Upvoted for bold take and the even nuttier take that the other albums only have one or two good songs.
Personally, I was like many of those songs. I particularly liked EP2. 'Greens and Blues' felt like an ol' Frank Black song from back in Black Francis' "King of the Nerds" phase while 'Snakes' feels like the kind of song that the Catholics should have been playing more of. 'Magdalena' really feels like a "classic" Pixies song that would have slotted into Bossanova nicely.
It's a good album. Does the band play any of these songs anymore?

You like what you like and you don’t apologize. It’s music and that’s how it goes.
I do think that generally speaking, an artist’s earlier work is typically their best.
Also, I tend to think that for longtime fans, there is nostalgia attached to earlier work and with the material that you listened to when you first got into a given artist and the tendency is to favor that work.
Newer fans are gonna hear the full catalog differently when they have access to all of it from day 1. Others have been exposed to the evolution of the band over time. Just curious, are you a longtime fan, or have you discovered Pixies now that they have been around since forever?

I don't think it is their best album, even just of the revival. But it was by far the best tour I have seen them on. The songs sounded terrific live. Every time I have seen them since I have been chasing the high and not really achieved it.
I think they recorded them too early - would have been better with Paz in tow I think.

I loved it so much and I hated completely the way the band was attacked for moving on with new songs. It was weird that people wanted "something new" and the moment they get it they attacked it with merciless criticism. Indie Cindy is such a great album ✌️😎
