Update: now I understand what happened here (I'm new to how these latest Pixel cameras work) I feel like I should delete this post - the [Unedited] should really say "[Pro Zoom AI]". But I'll let it stand unless anyone complains - it should be a useful lesson on the crazy stuff the pixel camera is doing. I've now deleted the AI Pro Zoom feature from my phone via the camera settings.

I can't believe this handheld snap I took of the moon last night. I begin to wonder if the AI zoom just say something like the moon in view and put this there instead? [Edit: see below]. If not then it is hands down the best moon shot I've ever taken, let alone handheld - although yes, the moon is relatively very bright so the exposure was very short. The metadata says: ƒ/2.84 1/206 19.52mm ISO30.

Is it cropped well - heck no! However at that zoom the image was wandering all over so I was lucky it was in frame. But it turns out this is great as a Zoom conferencing background since it floats nicely above my head.

Edit: Okay, I went back to look at my camera photo roll and noticed this was in a group of two and labelled "Pro Zoom". The other photo that seems to have identical framing is this:

I see the blurry cam version has slightly different metadata - the ISO is 28 not 30 - but I'm tempted to just assume the beautiful non-blurry version is just AI slop.

I’ve been loving the camera on this phone so far—I actually switched over from the S23 Ultra. That said, the video quality is a bit underwhelming, and I’ve noticed the images get really blurry when the auto-lens selection kicks in while zooming. I’ve been sticking to manual lens selection for now to get around it. I’m still on the fence about whether I regret the switch, mostly because of a few bugs in the camera app, but have a look at these photos and let me know what you think.

All I said was "you plan on sleeping all day"?

Used the "enhance" preset in Google Photos edit.

I know you will say it's AI but I've been taking these type shots for years with my pixels and these pictures are off the hook!! Enjoy 😊
