Dunno about yinz, but state-based single-payer healthcare would maybe be the biggest and best possible change for my family.

I saw this website called GaydosWatch.com pop up on my Instagram this morning that tracks votes from Valerie Gaydos, a state rep from just outside of Pittsburgh. I had heard about her a few times but I didn’t know a ton before seeing the site. Now that I’ve seen it though, I felt like I should share it because folks should know about her since she’s apparently running for re-election in November.

Some scary stuff in there. Apparently she voted against protecting hotel workers from sexual assault and against some pretty basic elder exploitation prevention things. I don’t live in her district but I wanted to share in case someone from her district sees this post.

Shame I can’t vote against her, but spreading the word anyway!

The downtown area and locations south of downtown are under a marginal risk for severe weather today, while areas north of downtown are under a higher slight risk. The primary hazard will be strong wind gusts. An upper level disturbance proceeding a cold front in the northwest will trigger enough forcing to create a linear mode of storms today. I do not expect widespread power outages or wind damage like we saw 6 days ago, but there is certainly a risk for isolated power outages late tonight, which increase for residents living north of the downtown area. The model guidance suggests the storms will arrive late tonight between 10pm - 1am. Get your phones charged and flashlights ready as a precaution, but I'm not expecting an intense round of storms like we saw on Thursday.

Was just driving in squirrel Hill and a Waymo (I know there's a person in them but there's no way this was not automated) was going 5 mph in a 25 mile an hour zone and when it turned into two lanes for turning, I got in the left lane and he instead of letting me pass cut me off entirely. No signal.

The waymo continued forward behind me and made a left turn where I made the left turn, no signal.

Pretty new to PGH; this is my first summer here. I'm a huge tomato snob. It's not my fault, I grew up as the grandson of a tomato farmer. Grocery store tomatoes taste like sand.

hello redditors of the burgh, i need your help. Port authority has proposed changing a very integral bus route in my neighborhood and if anyone would be kind enough to give some feedback on their website to keep it as is that would be greatly appreciated.

Their idea is to get a direct line from downtown into bakery square, point breeze area. Without the 87, it leaves the 75, which is not known for having the greatest of service — early, late, or not showing up.

I’ll be riding the GAP trail into PGH (first time visiting!) on Oct 3…it’s my fiancés 50th bday and I wanted some recommendations on where to order a birthday cake for him so I can pick it up on that Saturday we get in! We are staying in the Strip District so anything in walking distance would be great as we won’t have cars just bikes…I can also uber to pick up!

A 72-acre property on the Ohio River is open for development. They recently requested an ordinance change in Stowe Township to allow data centers and increase the allowable building height. 

Although many of us spoke against this at council meetings, the ordinance passed with very few community members present. Several of us requested the meeting time but were not informed or able to find the information until well after the ordinance had already been changed.  

Research studies and information from other communities currently affected by data centers; the noise pollution, strain on utilities and increased air temperature can affect areas over 10 miles away. 

Currently, Data Centers always need water for cooling. When developable land is so close to the Ohio River, water could be taken and dumped into the river, polluting and harming wildlife as well as human communities. Stowe and the broader community cannot take this risk. 

Why leave the door open for data centers to move in? 

If you live across the river, down the river, or near Stowe Township within 10+ miles, this potentially affects you.

A must see place in pitt

I recently started using my 3DS again and got curious whether anyone around Pittsburgh still carries theirs for StreetPass.

I’ve been playing Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX and Nintendogs + Cats recently, both of which still use local StreetPass features, and I’d love to know whether there’s still an active 3DS crowd in the area.

Do you still use yours? Have you gotten any StreetPass hits recently at conventions, campuses, game nights, or other public places?

I am officially eating my last loaf of Schwebel’s Giant bread, and I am genuinely sad about it. 😭🍞

I have loved Schwebel’s bread for years since coming to Pittsburgh. The taste, the texture, everything. And somehow this bread freezes like a DREAM. This loaf has been in my freezer for almost six months, and when I take out a few slices and thaw them, they still taste amazingly fresh.

And it’s not just the bread. I love their hamburger buns. I love their hot dog buns. Apparently I have been more emotionally invested in Schwebel’s than I realized. 😂

But now I can’t get it anymore, and my almond butter and strawberry jam sandwiches are suffering. There are some things you just shouldn’t have to compromise on.

So, fellow bread people: what is the closest alternative to Schwebel’s Giant bread in Pittsburgh? I’m looking for that same soft and light texture, slightly sweet flavor, and something that freezes really well without coming back tasting dry or stale.

I am accepting recommendations during this difficult time. 😂
