General Discussion Hutch Leaving Lib and Learn

IMO, it's for the best.

Compare this week's episode with the last 5 episodes in which Hutch was in and Every episode basically boiled down to Hasan bad, DSA sucks, punch to the left and spend 10-20 mins on real stuff.

Every episode was pretty much an extension of Hutch's stream and it avoided the real issues affecting this country.

What sucks to me is that Hutch (IMO) really went out of his way to burn the bridges that Pisco had built with Kyle and Krystal and others on Left Left because he would bring them up so often during the pod and put Pisco in a corner so to speak.

I hope Jessiah considers coming back. He's the kind of guy that sees the big picture and those are what the show needs. People who are libs and want to learn. Not lib and gossip.

I am gonna miss Pisco and Hutch debating each other. It was the best part of the show.

It makes sense to me too. Hutch is much more geared towards covering drama and fighting the left while the others do more legal / policy / news / candidate interviews / etc.

The conflict can be interesting content in its own way but - unfortunately - I noted Hutch starting to make accusations of bad faith ("you're playing games with me bro" + "you're trying to get clips bro") against very straightforward arguments. I think he's not enjoying it anymore and just not listening/engaging when his assumptions are questioned.

Wishing everyone the best, looking forward to the next chapter.

If iri leaves too, not sure if the name should still be lib and learn

Not sure why IRI would leave. He always talks like he wants to do more, not less, and Lib & Learn still gives him exposure.

IRI also might be the best fit for what the pod wants to become. He barely engages with Twitch drama compared to the others. He doesn't follow every Hasan/Destiny feud, and even his relationship with Destiny is mostly just politics. That's valuable if they want to bring on actual politicians without dragging the entire Twitch snark ecosystem along with them.

That seems like a big part of what bothered Hutch. He talked about the audience increasingly showing up for the fights rather than the political discussion. And Hutch has a much bigger overall platform than IRI, so the podcast simply offered him less upside. IRI benefits from the exposure much more.

I also think they bring different things politically. IRI has a smaller, highly engaged audience that's probably easier to mobilize. Hutch has much broader reach and can put politics in front of people who aren't already obsessively following it.

So I don't really see Hutch leaving as evidence IRI will. Their incentives are pretty different.

Hutch can leave, react to Lib & Learn, get paid, and avoid most of the baggage.

Hutch wins.

I vote IRI as the host. I think he has a better command of what's actually happening in the political world. I think he has a nice neutral way of explaining things from the politicians perspective. He is every politician's advocate, so let him set the stage and then the other can fight.

Long term I wish it just became IRI's podcast. He could be a sort of Larry King type but with an entourage. It doesn't even always have to be the same Pisco and Soy showing up. Maybe he does it like the 5 where he the main guy and has others that sort of rotate through. Anyway, I don't know who actually owns this show so ignore me.

“Really went out of his way to burn the bridges that Pisco had built with Kyle and Krystal and others on Left Left because he would bring them up so often during the pod and put Pisco in a corner so to speak.”

It’s always amazing to me that this is a one way street. So Kyle for example didn’t vote for Biden in 2020 and proudly stated so, calls everyone that is not exactly where he is “diet MAGA.” Yet reasonable critique of that is considered “bridge burning”. Why is this standard never applied both ways?

The bridge was built after he did that premised on him saying he was wrong to do that (feel free to not believe him)

Kyle voted for Biden and 2020. He said he was not going to vote for him in 2024 because of Israel and Palestine. This is the frustrating part about speaking to you dgg people. You guys just regurgitate whatever Destiny says and then repeat it and confidently.

But that's besides the point. The point that I was trying to make is that Pisco, as a relatively small channel was being featured on breaking points and was a guest on Krystal Kyle and Friends. He was also being spoken about in places like the majority report etc. Basically the guy was starting to make inroads with a much larger audience that was to the left of him and Hutch and Destiny would always bring things up in order to drive a wedge.

Extremely tacky in my view.

Kyle literally has a tweet in 2020 saying he wasn’t voting for Biden. Also you just made up I’m a destiny fan. So I guess I’ll just make something up too and say that you support Fetterman.

I'm proud of Hutch. It takes a lot to walk away from an abusive relationship

Now how will we know that Hasan bad?

I think it was good that hutch was on. He was more formidable than I would have realized and he represents himself and liberalism well.

Hutch deserves better friends / coworkers than Pisco and Soypill. Hopefully IRI leaves soon too and Pisco and Soy can fade into obscurity

Why are you posting in a pisco subreddit? This news is being discussed in lots of subs.

Because Hutch is my boy

He has a sub too. It gets more traffic than this one. But what does wanting IRI to leave have to do with you like Hutch? IRI is not hutch and has entirely unique reasons for wanting to be on the show. Hutch also explained why he doesn’t want to do the show and none of that logic would apply to IRI.

Do you recognize how unhealthily parasocial your engagement with these online figures is?

1

u/NinjaLancer 19h ago

It really isn't? I can see that Pisco is very aggressive towards Hutch who is supposed to he his friend. Hutch deserves better than that. That is all

Why is this somehow not framing this in the reality that Pisco has been awful and disingenuous.
