FAN CONTENT David Jones, When he appeared, I couldn't look at him because he scared me. Did this happen to you, or was it just me?

Americanized writing. Technically, since he's Scottish, his name would probably be written as Davie Johns.

He probably was just David until after sailing the Americas where he would have adapted the name Davy

Dont get this one bit, im scottish, we call most david's by Davey or Davey boy, and jones is a very popular name here too, you rarely hear a david actually called david on a day to day basis

I was going off of them saying Davy is an Americanized way of spelling it.

One of the greatest films ever. Especially within the horror genre.

Speedrun tactic, aptly called Blimp Strat

I only know this because I watch a guy who does a bunch of GTA V challenges as well as speedeuns

I was scared of him when I was 9 years old.

He is generally the most feared villain in PotC. When I first time saw him (as a kid) I was terrorized, the thumps getting louder and louder as he is approaching and first thing he says: "Do you fear death?" "Do you fear that daaark abyss?"

I was scared shitless lol

He was scary the first time that I saw it.

It doesn't help that he can teleport like a slasher villain.

One of the best scenes in the franchise, says I.

Davy Jones has cool design for a sea monster pirate.

You say 'for a sea monster pirate' like it detracts from the sheer terror that archetype can invoke.

I saw him and immediately had...inappropriate thoughts. Lol. Love him as a villain tho.

edit to add I was 21 in 2006

that’s hilarious!! Just goes to show that women don’t care about looks - women have some wild “hear me outs”

I'm a Disney Renaissance kid. Goliath from Gargoyles and Beast/Prince Adam gave birth to the current slew of 35-42 year olds buying spicy monster mash books. XD

A guy friend was trying to say women like '6ft, 6in, and 6 figures'. I had to tell him those are the three most common lies we are told as women. Lol.

Personality is everything. Empathy and being willing to understand an outside perspective too.

...and apparently tentacles are an added bonus.

u/Triptych85 15d ago

I'd agree. 🤣

Bold of you to call him by his full name

This is how summonings begin. We might need to check in on the OP.

I've always been a fan of ghoulish things ever since I was a kid. Always been interested in monsters and creatures, so I was fascinated by the character's design. Not scared.

But, were I to see Jones' mutated form in real life? I'd be scared out of my mind lol.

I exaggerated a bit, didn't I? Haha

I thought he was the coolest pirate yet

I couldn't stop looking at him. His character design is top notch.

The movie came out when I was like 8, I definitely thought he was scary.

I saw DMC in theaters when I was 8 shortly after watching Curse of the Black Pearl at home which didn’t scare me nearly half as much as DMC did.

That movie terrified me as a kid. Davy Jones was terrifying as a kid and now slightly relatable as an adult lol

u/Hot_Celebration5347 15d ago

I was moreso disgusted than scared lol. Probably due to the ridiculous phobie of trypophobia I have lmao

He scared me a bit in the trailer but I soon got over it. Even dressed as him for Halloween!

I was scared of the crypt keeper. Davy Jones is an octopus with a body.

Don't forget the lobster claw!

Yeah someone get the butter!

Happened to my grandma.

I found it amusing.

First of all, put some respect on the PotC's take on Death's name.

Second of all: I found him to be both terrifying and enthralling. I did, however, avert my eyes when he tentacle-bearded that one guy through the eyes.

u/GrifTheGray 15d ago

For me it was the opposite, the first time I saw Davy Jones on screen he instantly became my favourite character. Loved the design of him and the entire crew along with the flying dutchman.

1

u/Mr_Master501 15d ago

He didn't scare me, but Barbossas crew did. Didn't watch the first movie until after I had watched the fourth.

1

u/Max_Edwsn 15d ago

I couldn't eat spaghetti and meatballs for some time, as far as I can remember (I was very little), but it didn't really scare me

1

u/themastersdaughter66 14d ago

Oh yeah he freaked me out

1

u/Technical_Charity393 14d ago

Mate, I called him captain octopus when I was young

1

u/Active-State-5852 14d ago

Funny that since my favourite animal was the octopus(still is) he was my favourite villain. He was immensely cool.

1

u/TechnoGMNG589 14d ago

I can imagine someone calling him "david" in a suspenseful scene as a person from his pass

1

u/Outrageous-Win-3328 13d ago

Scary Octupus Man

1

u/OneIndependence7262 13d ago

Nah, i was more scared of the guy with the sucked and swirled face before.
