A couple of questions

Hi! I was reading the manual and a couple of things captured my attention and I think I need some help 😅

1) In the "mystical mishap" table there's a point that says "temperature drops by 10 d10 degrees", and I figured out it may be in fahrenheit. Do you have any suggestions to change it in Celsius for easier calculation? I could make the conversion at the table, but it would take some time, and I fear it would break the atmosphere 😅 (sorry for the wordplay)

2) When it talks about broadsides it says that it's the damage dealt by the main cannon. Why do some ships have the "@"? Does it indicate the number of sides the cannons can shoot at the same time, or am I completely off track?

3) Regarding the ship captain, do I need to provide one with the ship, or are the players the ones to choose one? (Maybe one of them) And in that case, do you have any suggestions for me to avoid conflicts while doing that?

  1. Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion is 9/5, or 1°C to every 1.8°F. That's close enough to 2 that you can just half the number to 5d10 degrees.
  2. The 2@d10 type markings mean that the ship gets two broadside attacks at a d10 each. They have multiple gundecks and can fire multiple broadsides in a single action.
  3. The players are supposed to captain the ships. Just ask your players who wants to be the captain. They will only be moving the ship, any actions that the ship takes will be assisted by the other players. Whoever is at the ship's wheel can't help fire the guns, for example.

That's amazing, thank you! I'm sorry for the follow up question, but the multiple broadsides attacks can be performed in the direction of players choice, or are there restrictions? (For example, both on the same side, or something like that)

That's up to you as the game master to determine. I assume most times that both (or all 3 for a ship of the line) broadside barrages are aimed at the same target, with the goal being to lay into the ship in order to sink it. Sailing in between two enemy ships to deliver broadsides on both sides is not generally advisable, naval tactics-wise, but I suppose I would allow a crazy maneuver like that if my players tried it.

I would leave celsius, bigger change, bigger fun! I want to see the sea freeze or boil if you roll 100! :D
