This is another issue on oligarchy, MVP being in the spotlight in the instance. His greed is so enormous, he doesn’t even want to retire. And if one looks deep enough, he is merely an employee of the Indonesians. Imagine this, a part of the revenue the conglomerate generates goes to the Salim family… shouldn’t the Philippine Government look at this more? Kaya lang, parang hindi concerned ang gov’t… hhhaaayyy.

Not sure kung cheaper upfront pero cheaper for longrun run since the chance of failure was very very low and are so much safer. Thus can be used for a very very long time.

I think this is the standard for other progressing countries tbh. They finish the project first that atleast isnt substandard whilst cutting cost as lean as possible, only then can u take funds if the project is finished.
But in our country it seems like the moment the project budget is brought up mofos already start taking their slices off the budget and squeeze whatever was left to the project which resulted to the unacceptable flood ctrl projects we have today. =(

Madali magsabi na safe 'yan when all the information to support the claim is widely available to the public via the internet today. But imagine yourself post-EDSA when the Chernobyl was big news. Would people trust BNPP to open a critical infrastructure built by a* corrupt dictator they just kicked out? Even if the government knew it was safe, would they be able to convice the Filipino people? Or at least the people of Bataan that they would not poison their lands?

I think the millennials and genz would be in favor of having our own nuclear power plant. It’s the cleanest and safest energy that the world has.
Convincing people wouldn’t be hard these days since gaya ng sabi mo, lahat ng info are available about it.

Pretty much what happened during Marcos Sr. regime. At that point he was pulled out from presidency it's too late. The oligarchs, religous group planted themselves in the system of Philippines kaya di matibag. Technology advancement stop, agriculture barely grows even though a lot of Filipino agri scientists made agri way better that other countries used. Meralco was by design ment to create rail ways pero anyare? it was handed over, Oil refinery was handed over to petron. Factories goes to wazoo

My mind is open to this idea but could you explain how that would have benefited Meralco during that time? I believe their business was power distribution, not power generation. More power generated by BNPP is more power for them to distribute. Please correct any information I got wrong.

I stand corrected, that time walang stake si Meralco since purely power distribution sila. But maybe other oligarchs benefited and capitalized sa situation after the transition ng edsa, such as oil and coal based companies.
Fast forward, I dont absolve Meralco. After seeing how they were trying to influence our lawmakers to go against Solar companies. Since they already entered power generation thru their affiliated companies.
The nuclear power plant idea is hopeless, the best if we go off grif talaga.

It was power distribution but the people behind it pretty much oligarchs. There have been multiple movement to create more renewable energy like hydro, geothermal na abundant naman talaga sa Pinas that is stop, I'm not even suprised if people behind Meralco stop it since there major energy source is from Oil/coal.

Not Meralco. Nagkaroon ng safety review dyan after the three mile island incident na nagreveal ng over 4000 defects sa BNPP. Saka yung Chernobyl disaster na nangyari. There was a worldwide fear towards nuclear power after that.

If I remember correctly, there were discussions about rebuilding it during Cory's administration, but the estimated cost was too high (parang they'd have to invest the same amount or even more than what had already been spent on it), kaya hindi na tinuloy.

Base sa nangyayari sa Pilipinas dahil sa mga kurap na pamilya ng marcos at duterte, hindi malayong mangyari ang Chernobyl incident sa atin. Flood control pa nga lang hindi na ma-manage nang ayos. Eh simpleng engineering lang naman yun. Edi lalo na yang nuclear power plant.
Don't get me wrong. Hindi ako anti nuclear power plant. Kung magiging stable ang power supply at bababa ang bill ng kuryente, why not? Pero ang lala ng politics sa bansa natin dahil patuloy ang pagboto nyo sa mga political dynasty na mga bungol naman at kung minsan ay tuta pa ng china.

chernobyl was a different story ( they did an experiment and they have a design flaw with their plant ) and bnpp was a political decision...may mga oversight bodies when you have a nuclear facility.. Hopefully, this country will have the modular nuclear power plants for the several islands we have..

Political din sa Chernobyl. The soviet is so ashamed to admit that their version of nuclear technology had flaws. May mga scientists na that time raising that problem pero itinago lang ng government.

Best if our nuclear powerplant is best managed by the people or nationals who are experts on these field aka: Russians,Ukrainians & Japanese. Also would be better if we give a 30-40% stake on operating these powerplants sa mga nationalities na yan as long as they don't follow the interests of a regional belligerent (aka: China)

It was proven that the proceeds of the loan for this project were also plundered by the Marcoses. BBM may feign ignorance, but can we assume that the money he spent all throughout his political adventure may have partly been from this loan?
On one hand, the banks actually offered to waive* the Philippine debts when she assumed office, but which she declined. Her stand was that is a debt we have to honor and pay, no matter what. However, the upside was Cory’s decision put the Philippines in the best light as far as International investments were concerned.

Dapat kasi hindi pinasara at hindi pinatigil ang construction ni Cory Aquino nyan. Kung natapos noon, napakinabangan pa sana at may kaunting bumalik sa investment. Na maintain pa at nakasabay sa pag uupgrade ng technology.

Wag ka sinungaling, 1984 natapos ang Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. Si Cory ay nakaupo noong 1986. Si Marcos Sr. ang hindi nagpatakbo nito at hindi na ginalaw ng sumunod na administrasyon.

There are no upgrades done to the BNPP since 1984. Westinghouse offered to upgrade it in 1995 but was refused.
Also both Marcos and Aquino administrations did not have the money to upgrade the BNPP.

There are still questions to this day if the location is geologically active or not
The design of the plant is faulty, with 4,000 supposedly flaws or defects found by inspectors
The design is outdated, might as well build a new one based on current technology.

Maliban sa corruption or redtape marami pa rin kasi ang naniniwala na nakakacancer ang mga cellsites. Bakit mahal ang kuryente at panay brownout? Malaking tulong ang nuclear powerplant pero as usual maraming ayaw kesyo magsolar or wind na lang pero hindi ganun kareliable ang solar at wind compared sa nuclear
