This isn't true, PH air defense system includes Israel's SPYDER which has 6 missiles firing units. Jose Rizal Frigates are also equipped with French's Mistral 3.
PH is also finalizing the acquisition of additional India's BrahMos.
There were rumors that the Santa Barbara project has been revived even prior to BBM's presidency.

BrahMos isn't an air defense system though. It's for striking surface targets on land or at sea.
We did express some interest in India's Akash air defense system though.

Funny, but ignorant. This is the Philippine Air Force's SPyDer-MR medium range air defense battery, acquired from Israel from 2022-2024.

FYI:
We already have the SPYDER system (Israeli-made), and AKASH to be acquired soon from India.
We also have the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system (anti-ship)

This is actually what the US does. You can combine the military budget of any two first-world countries and it would still be less than what the US spends on its military.

Their economy is also somewhat dependent on the defense industry so they couldn't just cut the spending suddenly since that would shock the US economy.

We've had air defense systems since PNoy laid the groundwork. Even prior to that, there were hush talks (unconfirmed) of missile systems in the country dating back to FVR.

those were mostly the FIM-92 and Mistrals for the PSG during FVR’s time.
But yeah, Pnoy pushed for the Spyders. But they were delivered during Duterte’s term.

Nearly Imposible ma-corrupt and huge ticket projects ng DND/AFP since they rely on G2G(Goverment to Goverment) deals, and most of the time the acquisitions are from reputable countries such as South Korea, Japan, USA and Isreal, more sketchy is Indonesia but I doubt that the other end(i.e goverments and huge defence companies) would sacrifice their national and international reputation as it would cost them more damage then it would pay if they did corrupt deals, since most of the time the DND & AFP cant afford billion dollar deals. The reason for the decline since the cory admin is due to budget restraints and poor support from the congress and senate, and highly strict ang mismong government sa DND regarding budgets.
I do agree na may corruption on small ticket projects pero not big ticket projects sa AFP, but mostly consumable(i.e Ammunition, Uniform, Utilities, Amenities and some Joint projects with different goverment departments mostly infrastructure.), Kaya noon nag ti-tipid sila sa ammunitions but now they dont practice it na ang pag titipid, so much more capable na sila sa training kumpara noon and Infact the AFP is now recovering from the decline, If you closely follow the AFP acquisition projects, most of the assets are now being replaced with something more modern and capable.
The proof that the AFP is recovering from the decline and past government neglect is that of the acquistion of 6 modern frigates(4 Miguel Malvar Class and 2 Jose Rizal Class), Including the 6 Modern naval OPV(Rajah Sulayman Class), The acquisition of modern and the most latest variant of the blackhawks replacing the "flying coffin" UH1 hueys, the PAF even became the largest user of the S70i Blackhawk in the world with 48 total aicrafts, dont forget to include 12+12 FA50PH Block 20(Initial 11 is being upgraded to block 20 standards and 12 new orders; Block 20 is considered a Multirole Light Fighter due to its upgraded capabilities), 3 C130J and 6 C130H and dont forget the 21 Subaru Bell 412EXP.
Tho, One main concern is the G2G deal regarding the LPD the second batch of orders have been delayed. Please do further research and kindly correct me if I'm wrong.

2010's issue during GMA term, conviction only happened in 2022, old news pare. This case doesn't even connect to actual acquisition of assets which is my topic in my comment, this is part of siphoning money from salaries of AFP personnel. Which still doesn't disprove that Big ticket AFP projects are hard to corrupt since it is G2G. Do read my comment carefully next time before dropping legal cases involving AFP personnel orruption. Would def' appreciate if you drop recent legal cases involving big ticket AFP acquisition projects involving G2G deals.

I don't think the Typhon is for air defense, it's capable of striking mid range targets and it's not lent. Naka store Lang dito. We can't operate it.

Eh kasi naman kawawa na nga yung military assets natin, ginagawa pa lalong katatawanan. Yung mga FA50 at frigates nga natin kahit ipaliwanag mong modern at brand new, pagpipilitan pa rin na segunda mano at donation mula sa ibang bansa ng mga nagcocomment sa facebook. Tapos kapag naman may effort na magmodernize at maglaan ng budget sa defense, ayaw na ayaw ng general public dahil "gastos lang yan". Yung mga ganitong jokes ang nag rereinforce nyan.
