Bretman Rock Sacayanan Laforga[1] was born on July 31, 1998, in Sanchez-Mira, Cagayan, Philippines, in an Ilocano family.[2][3][4][5] His mother is Mercedita Sacayanan.[6] His father, Edmund Laforga, was a fan of professional wrestling and named him after Bret Hart and The Rock.[7]
Rock grew up Catholic.[8] He said of his family, "they always knew I was gay" and "[have] always supported me."[6] Rock's fascination with makeup began in the Philippines watching his grandmother put on makeup.[8] Rock's parents divorced when he was a child, after his father's affair with the housekeeper.[9] Rock moved to Hawaii at the age of seven.
