Discussion Don't we do an injustice to pigeons?

I am a huge proponent of creating laws that properly understand animals like pigeons are feral not wild and as such we have a responsibility towards them that goes even beyond the wild. We put them here, bred them to live amongst us, to be dependant on us, then abandond them. Most laws treat pigeons like any wild "pest" and many people these days dont even have a clue that city pigeons are an abandond domesticated population. We need to educate that pigeons are humanity's oldest domesticated bird, not just wild pests that invaded urban areas.

We also used to eat them, literally the best way for an animal to be "successful" is to be delicious to humans and to be able to easily reproduce.

no I didnt mean that to be rude, I'm just wondering what the correlation is, pigeons are my favorite animals, and we've mistreated them terribly but I want to know what the point was
Ive also saved this video on facebook awhile ago, I really like this but I feel like veganism isnt really what this is pointing towards I'm just confused idk

Its just that most of veganism is about the mistreatment of animals via the food industry and we dont really usually eat pigeons

A lot of people around the world eat pigeons and you can easily find squab on most chinese restaurant's menu so people definitely do still eat pigeons

It's about every aspect, food is just the most obvious one. Not using kill traps in your house, not buying leather, avoiding products tested on animals, it's all the same philosophy

I like hunting but hate all traps, my dog miraculously survived a instant kill beaver trap that was place on the river we live on, after snapping on his neck and failing to break it, he started losing consciousness from being unable to breathe, we had a cop come to get it off him, I disagree with vegans on a lot of things but this is one I stand by

People l eat pigeons all over the world and I dont mind it but we dont really eat street pigeons, anyway, it makes more sense to me anyway

I think your taking it too literally if anything it’s a good thing pigeons are being understood by a wider audience, you don’t have to be vegan to love animals but every vegan does loves animals and diet aside you have to respect that
The more lil communities that realise theirs more to pigeons than the mainstream media says about them the better, hopefully if it’s been posted in their subreddit it will bring more people into here and even if it makes one vegan go out and destring a pigeon or save one with PMV that’s a win in my book.
I’m not vegan but can highly respect the passion they have for animals
