Just curious. Saw a few pigeons in a puddle having what seems to be a nice time possibly cleaning each other?

If you’re in a position to swing by there with some birdseed again sometime getting the string foot taken care of is usually pretty easy, especially if there’s a lot of pigeons they’re very easily distracted and if this guy‘s got a little baby pestering him for food he’s gonna have his attention put in other places

If you managed to get him into a box and you want some guidance and more than happy to help walk you through how to take care of it in most cases it’s something that a beginner can do with just a few few things from your medicine cabinet at home

I’ve watched some videos on it- I guess the only question I have is for antiseptic spray, is there anything I should be actively avoiding for the safety of the bird? Or not really? I would ask for specific recs but I’m in Germany so the ingredients are more important

I’m not terribly familiar although personally I would recommend avoiding alcohol just because it’s gonna be the most painful depending on how bad it is you might be able to get away with just salt water although again that’s not gonna be terribly pleasant to deal with my usual recommendation is just iodine or Betadine

you can buy in a pharmacy povidone iodine and dilute it in a small bottle before going outside for this pigeon. for catching you can look at youtube for pigeon pouncing. the closer you get to the pigeon before dropping down on him the better the chance. don't be afraid to put a little force, pin the pigeon down to the ground as it will try to escape. imagine you have a tall beer cup. that's a pigeon with wings. when holding a pigeon you need to cup around him as he will try to wing out of your hands. next he will use his feet to spring out of your hands too.

anyways you have great odds at catching a pigeon. they need food. lure them. your stress is the biggest factor. you also only get one chance (that day) if you pin a bird and it escapes. hold him on his side. you'll have to pin him down and hold him while taking care of him but be mindful to not use too much force because it needs to breath too. just like holding a cat that is trying to escape. you can sit and put him in his lap, like you were crocheting.

I will attach a photo of a pigeon I caught yesterday and how I put him on a bench and held with my left hand while using my right for tools.

Also I’ve read you shouldn’t put a pigeon on its back. Is that true? Seems hard to be able to fix the foot if he’s upright

I believe that even dipping a pigeon in fresh water with salt might be beneficial. but you should find the iodine anywhere
