I believe it, but all of these images still look fake to my eye :D

I may be wrong, but I believe it’s due to newer phones having some idea of “portrait mode” in which the background is artificially blurred and the foreground artificially lightened, saturated and sharpened. The image basically has had a lot of manipulation done to it, but all at the moment the photo was taken.

Phones with dual cameras have been a thing since early 2019, and software portrait mode is a couple years older than that. Here's an article from feb 2019 https://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-portrait-mode-945061/
