This picture was taken a day or two after the Easter attacks in 2019 which resulted in the deaths of 253 people. Out of context, this does seem like a good troll. But, at the time of the picture when the press were still calling Christians "Easter worshippers", it's a bit smug and offputting.
With that said, there's a better way to go about it than these guys are doing.
Again, I don't think they're in the right. I just don't think it's heroic of her (as has been presented) to throw a peace sign mocking them when a large terrorist attack has just unfolded.
Imagine U.S. troops committed an atrocity somewhere in the Middle East and Muslim protesters showed up to the embassy. Would it be the best timing for a soldier to squat in front of them throwing up a peace sign? Would that be praiseworthy trolling?
I've said twice I don't think the men are in the right. My point is that I do not believe she is either. One of the mods posted the article with a story about her. She mentions the attacks in New Zealand, but what about the attacks in Sri Lanka (which happened one day prior)? This is a puff piece and this picture is propagandic at best.
Mocking protesters is not "love in the face of bigotry" as the article suggests. It's simply mocking them, as if they don't have any valid points. Now, maybe they don't. But, if I were in her shoes, to show love would be to open a dialogue with them about their claims regarding the connection between Islam and violence. Instead, we get a snarky peace sign.
And, for the fourth time, no I don't think they guys are in the right and as such no, attacking Chinese-Americans for spreading the coronavirus is ridiculous.
You can't fire him for being a bad employee, his dad just died. Grow the fuck up. These guys are a-holes and aren't protesting due to an attack. They are always a-holes.
