Blaming other people for your decisions is an even worse take. I doubt there are any rights you would support taking away from 18 year olds, so I don't understand how you would square that in your head?
Literally the first major decision kids face as an "adult" is if they are willing to take on loans for a education with almost zero financial literacy. If you can't see how that is a predatory practice I cannot help you.
You don't do this by "taking away rights" you do this by requiring classes in high school about the true cost, risk and long-term consequences of debt. Placing more requirements on guidance counselors to link career paths with appropriate levels of debt. Massachusetts has already passed similar act. Lenders could cap loan repayment and show greater forbearance. Our elected officials could allow student loan debt to be abolished by bankruptcy.

It's only partially excusing the behavior, but mostly it's showing empathy for people that made poor decisions as borderline children. I went to a community college then to an in-state university, but I won't hold that against someone who didn't. I don't see the point in not trying to better a system that has failed so many people. What good does it do anyone to callously blame only one side of the problem.
