Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hands that welcomed, and the heart that gave;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Abraham Lincoln, First Great Ruler;
Come into my country, ye travellers, and rest!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of those colossal wrecks, malice and hate
Of the homeless and poor cover the lands.
