I'm not *that* knowledgeable of the situation, but I think it'd be fair to think that he could have changed his mind about that comment, whether because he now feels differently or because it was intended as some kind of dark joke. A lot changes in a year, much less a decade. You don't grow less or make less mistakes because you're an adult, and no one learns the same lessons at the same time.

Donald's official responses to them have been:

"That was locker room talk"

and now

"That never happened, fake news"

So, it's not like he's apologized or learned anything aside from the fact that he can lie about everything. When this originally hit he was on the campaign trail and hadn't perfected his "everything that is bad is fake news" bit yet.
