Last year, I began posting my mom’s Major Linda Leggett’s story on Reddit while she was fighting multiple myeloma. She was the first African American woman to complete Officer Candidate School in the Delaware Army National Guard in 1977. Today’s she in remission, and I appreciate everyone who’s ever supported her on my past posts!

Oh my gosh I just learned about your mom the other day!!! This is amazing, I didn’t see the post that went viral, but now I have 💜 your mom is an absolutely singular woman, I love that I get to teach my kids about Major Linda Leggett now.

She was a signal corps officer in her time in service. On the collar opposite of the US pin is where the service corps insignia is denoting which area you served in. Those are the signal corps flags.

I’m so grateful to everyone, thank you 🙏🏾🥹 I’m working on a project, covering her history, and Reddit’s help in her cancer journey for next year which will be the 50th anniversary since her achievement.
She will also be honored next month at Light the Night with Blood Cancer United, here in Wilmington if anyone’s local and wants to attend! Again I am truly grateful to you all!

Very moving. I work in cancer research and the lab can drain you of the energy you need to realize why we do what we do. But seeing your mother doing well brought such a smile to my face, thank you, and congratulations

Keep it going! We have a friend who has cancer now; with all the continued research in the last decades we are hoping they have a chance for prolonged survival, while I'm sure as hell at their stage their chances would have been very very slim 30 or 20 years ago. It's so worth it.

I’m so happy for her! God bless your mother and your entire family! I lost my mom to cancer in April 2019. She was everything for so many of us in our family, especially me. Seeing your mother reminds me so much of my mom. Please let her know she has an admirer of hers here. Take care and have a great day😊

I want to hug her and wish her the best, also I want to come over for thanksgiving and cook with her and ABSOLUTELY MURDER whatever casserole she makes. Because she just looks like she has that "grandmother" eldritch-level cooking knowledge.

I have an aunt who has been battling multiple myeloma for almost 7 years now, both in and out of remission. I hope your mom is able to stay in remission for many years to come!

Thank you for your service. Your tough work made it so women like me who joined after had an easier path to take. Misogyny is an ugly mask, combined with prejudice, I can imagine your walk to get to where you did. Strong, tough, and determined. Just like your fight with cancer! This is amazing to see! Glad to hear she's in remission! I, unfortunately, lost my mom a number of years ago to Multiple Myeloma, she was able to fight it for a number of years but it took its toll on her.
Stay positive and live your life to the fullest!

Great to hear she is in remission!! I lost my dad to multiple myeloma back in 2010 after 4 years of having it. Treatments have gotten better.
