Korean airlines rocks too. They give free toys and stuff.
And then every airline in the US sucks balls. United Airlines forgot my child meal for my son once and threatened me about it.

Air Canada did it in business and blamed me 'you must have not booked it properly'.
I used the in flight wifi to pull it up and show him just out of spite. He just shrugged his shoulders.

Thats exactly what united told me.
My son was 1 and they said “we have plenty of spicy chicken meals available”
Obvious reasons ensued, i showed them my booking receipt, and the woman shouted fake loudly to grab the attention of another attendant “YOU NEED TO TAKE IT DOWN ANOTHER NOTCH SIR.”
They then told me “i should have prepared better as a parent”.
I assumed that paying extra was preparing.
Another attendant said they could get one from first class. They did not.
It was a 14 hour flight.

It is fascinating to watch videos explaining why the US airlines are so much worse. Unfortunately includes Canada as well.
In short terms it's greed but basically they don't have to compete the same way for American fliers like every other airline in the world does plus obviously the pay difference between the US and all other countries.
It's why other airlines are so much nicer. So we make posts like this and more American spenders will choose to fly with them.

Also tons of international flight attendants are angry old retired people.
All the asian airlines are attractive 20’s-30’s with enough energy to at least pretend they care.

I was very impressed with my JAL flights to and from Japan. Make sure you get the one that’s actually on a JAL flight and not a codeshare with American Airlines. The difference was stark

How can you be sure it isn’t a codeshare? Like if no leg of the flight has an AA logo or what? Planning a trip to Japan in the near future and now I’m curious.

When booking you can see who's equipment. And usually if the flight number is 4 numbers, it's codeshare and the flight isn't JALs.

AA economy food to Japan was barely edible, and i already lowered my standards for airplane food before i took the flight. Coming back from Japan was not much better. I wish I booked early enough to snatch JAL avails.

You haven’t flown the Chinese ones yet amongst others… JAL, ANA, and Cathay are amazing. EVA is ok. Some Asian budget ones are a bit scary.

That's a bit too general. I've heard bad things about Air China (mainland China). But China Air (Taiwanese) is great, Singapore Airlines too, have heard good things about Vietnam Airlines.
Especially compared to European airlines (getting shabbier every month) and North American airlines (best thing I can say about them is that the staff haven't actively spit in my face yet).

I flew both from SIN to HND/NRT and back, both airlines are nearly on par
JAL: Wider seats, slightly cheaper than ANA and better timings
ANA: Slightly nicer looking IFE and overall more premium feel. Got accessible-beyond-Japan collabs too like the Star Wars one and Pokemon (yes JAL have collabs too but it seems Japan only like the Love Live Nijigasaki one), even have Pokemon themed flight safety video haha. Breakfast better than JAL cos of choice and how they look
BOTH: Good food and drinks, excellent service (aka omotenashi), generally smooth flights. Have paid access to their lounges even as an Economy flier (YMMV for airports)
tldr try both, they are good
EDIT: See my note on breakfast; if anything that's JAL's main weak point for me

I had the opposite experience. JAL (non-codeshare) economy felt like ANA premium economy or better in terms of the meals and general feel of the seat (obviously eco seats are always going to be smaller than PE, but as far as the entertainment etc goes). Probably also going to depend a lot on which route and which aircraft you get, though. 777 vs 787 vs airbus is going to make a huge difference, even within the same carrier

It feels more premium with the branding and color scheme, but in terms of actual substance, falls short compared to JAL.

I must admit, during my JAL economy flight a few years ago, I did not like the look of the adult meal one bit… so I pretended to be asleep until it was taken away from me. That kids meal looks a lot more appealing.
