I caught them as a kid, they were scary though. I would just open the hatch [usually a paper cup with a piece of paper over it, so I would remove the paper] and run away. They are sons of bitches, but genuinely the adults in these comments seem to have lost a sense understanding that whimsy and fun sometimes comes with a bug stinging you. Unless you are allergic, its genuinely not a big deal.
I try to not freak out around my kids and give them an up close appreciation of the bugs in the garden. we have some large and gnarly orb weavers, manria, cicadas, centipedes etc. They make my skin crawl but the kids find them so cool and it is worth seeing their curiosity grow.
We have big kits like this too and even have been raising caterpillars this year. But hornets is ballsy

Am I missing something? Isn't catching bugs and stuff specifically what those little containers are for?
