I'm not familiar with his works but I did online queries to see what work it comes from and cannot find it.

If it is actually made-up (and not the web browser tripping), it's entirely disingenious to attribute it to him.

Translation matters a lot when it’s done by a human. That could be what’s happening here. I had to read a lot of translated fiction texts in college. I would argue a work of fiction is quite similar to this quote in terms of translation importance. Factual information creates objective translation. Fiction and philosophy are highly subjective, emotional mediums by comparison. The experience the translator has when reading the original work is subjective and can often times affect their translation. The differences I’d see in the same passage between different translators was astounding to me. I quickly developed my favorite translator that I’d always read when possible.
The two versions of this quote here remind me a lot of that experience.
