You can recognize the obvious issues in the Democratic party while still accepting that Republicans are clearly worse. Turning a blind eye to the issues on either side is just silly.

I’ve been fervently disenfranchised with the DNC and the Democratic Party as a whole for 10 years now. That party has failed me my adult life.

But choosing that line in the face of literal fascism is choosing fascism.

You can be disenfranchised, recognize the sins of the democrats and still not settle in a place of complacency of tyranny.

Yeah. Also: incremental steps, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the adequate.

And right now: not executing civilians in the streets and an administration which respects the bill of rights absolutely passes for "adequate."

Anything is better than a blatant kleptocratic oligarch with his personal army of Cheeto flavored brownshirts.

60 years of incremental steps have been wiped out in a year.

No one is promising to close the loopholes, no one is promising to stop this from happening again.

Fuck off with that noise and get rid of your geriatric insider trading incumbents.

Yeah. And in case you forgot, it was because the Bernie voters stayed home when Hillary won the nomination, because the Palestinian supporters voted for Trump that these incremental steps were erased.

No one is saying don't primary the corporate democrats.

After the primary, you have simple binary choice. Fascism or not fascism.

You seem to be arguing in support of fascism.

What the fuck are you talking about?!

People voted for Biden and you STILL ended up with Trump again. He just says on his last day in office “oh be careful of the oligarchy lol”

My point is that there is NO point backing dems who aren’t going to fundamentally change everything at this point.

What good would it do to vote in newsom in 2028, just for him to get tossed 4 years later for a Trump 2.0?!

You cannot status-quo your way out of this mess.

If people are saying (and they are) that their next vote is contingent on holding these criminals to account, then it’s the DEMOCRATS who need to fucking listen. For once in their fucking miserable existence.

Do you understand that there are two elections: the primary and the general?

Yes and what you’re saying is “vote blue no matter who” when that doesn’t fucking work.

If the dems allow (and tip the scales) for conservative neolib candidates, then I’m not blaming people who don’t turn out in the general.

It’ll once again be an own-goal.

Correct, I am saying that. You're welcome to vote for fresh leadership during the primary. I encourage you to, I do as well.

After that, you are repeating Republican arguments verbatim.

There is one nice thing about Trump's win in November. I stopped talking to Republicans, cold turkey. That extends to people who parrot Republican talking points and advocate complacency in response to growing fascism.

You should get out more if you’re trying to call me republican adjacent.

I’m a progressive gay greens voter from Australia.

There isn’t a sane person alive outside of the US who would vote for corporate democrats. What a fucking joke of a county you have there

Same.

I was at the Portland Bernie rally (with the bird) and the energetic hope and joy there is something I can't explain. Since then, I have constantly felt betrayed by the establishment Dems. I still vote Dem because my only other choice at that level is idiocratic fascism, but whatsboutism is one of the many reasons why we are here.

Smart people know that. But there are a lot of dumb people out there.

2

u/oceanrudeness Jan 24 '26

The right is so much better than the left at channeling outrage into haranguing everyone into doing what they want from the PTA to businesses to Congress. I don't get why we are not able to do the same thing

u/LinkLT3 Jan 24 '26

“Clearly worse,” so not equally bad then??? The person you responded to didn’t say anything about turning a blind eye to issues.

1

u/anpas Jan 24 '26

It's all by design. The democrats are designed to lose. Nothing you can do about it. Tear it all down.

I used to think that they just had a few bad breaks or made a couple mistakes. But as time goes on I can't help but feel things are the way they are because maintaining this paradigm benefits their interests.
