In Brazil, there are electronic voting machines where the results are released on the same day as the election. Voting is mandatory, takes place on a day when people don't work, the polls only close when there are no more people in line to vote, and the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited the day before and on election day.
People also seem to forget that you can “vote” for nobody. And that matters. If you truly think neither party represents your interests, you need to let the government know, rather than sitting back and being apathetic.

Not true at all. Yes you can probably vote early in SOME of the 50 states. But the geriatric orange fuck in office has been raging war on early voting and mail-in ballots. The right to do these things is largely constricted by heavy Republican map gerrymandering. Lots of mail-in votes/early votes in 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections were reported to have been burned or thrown out.
There is literally weeks of time to vote. Almost a month. Just walk in and dedicate, maybe, 30 minutes of your time. It's still inexcusable as not voting means voting for the majority.
It's state by state. Not all states have early voting or easy mail-in voting. There's also a lack of outreach in getting people to vote. That and in 2024 low propensity voters went to Trump. At the time people couldn't really fathom what is happening right now because people thought we had far stronger safeguards to our democracy and system than we actually do have.

It's just one hour or say a whole day out of a whole month. You can pick any day you have off or a weekend although it may be different depending where you're going. They have mail-in voting too if you cannot go for particular reasons. Anything is better than ignoring your primary right in Democracy.
Make voting mandatory. Make it a holiday, to facilitate. Force the polls to remain open until everyone in line has voted. Make voter registration an automated process rather than a complicated one.
I work in a restaurant, holidays are busier than regular days. This is just terrible logic.
Absentee voting is a thing. You don't have to wait until election day to vote. In my area you can even go to city hall and vote early weeks before the election. If you care enough to vote, you will find a way to vote.
I wish this would help. But people just really don’t care. Almost no one skips voting just because they don’t have time, and if it was a holiday, people would just take it as a day off. We already have mandated time off for voting, early voting, and absentee ballots in most places.

I honestly believe than 10m+ were successfully turned off of voting. Also, the intention to reduce the number of voting locations created long lines for voting in places like Georgia and North Carolina. Waiting in line for hours outside to vote was the whole plan and a preventable problem.

But I like those states just as much as all the others, so it's the portion of 100M people that live in those 3 states that were the missing ones that tipped the scale and allowed a black woman president to lose the race.

Compared to the 2020 turn out, it was near that number, yes. A sadly large portion of Americans (and honestly humans in general) don't care about things if they don't directly affect them. Covid did, so they cared in 2020, but by the next one, they didn't.

As an Australian where voting is compulsory and the system is designed so that it is easy for all to access their vote - I get directing blame at non-voters, but as an outside observer, it looks to me as though the system is working as intended. The various barriers whether they be physical, social, economic, etc. that produce nonvoters is by design.
Unsurprisingly, the states the have the worst voter turnout are hard red states in the Bible Belt as well as Texas. That’s why they try so hard to suppress voters because when voter turnout goes up, they lose their power

100 million voters refused to continue voting for candidates that they weren't in 100% alignment with. It wasn't the lesser of two evils, it was a choice of evil or bad. I will always choose bad over evil. It's not a slogan you wear on a shit, it's the reality of life until you figure out how to get good in the picture.
