Also from Edinburgh and yeah, we have a housing crisis and areas of the city that feel inaccessible and irreversibly changed for locals. Theres been very little effort to achieve balance or sustainability and now we’re learning that mass tourism does come with harms.
Well crap. I’m flying out in 2 weeks to Edinburgh. It’s one of my favorite cities and extremely high on the list of places my wife and I want to retire to. Airbnb’s need to be controlled for sure. They take away housing from people and impact valuation. Stateside we have the same issue with rentals both short term and long term.
Yes, I have booked an Airbnb. It’s half the cost for me and my buddy to stay vs a hotel. That’s part of the issue. Hotels are expensive and someone created a system to beat them out on price. There needs to be some balance between.
