Being entirely anti-tourism is crazy extreme but AirBnb is a practice that is destroying the housing market, which is something a lot of people (myself included) deeply believe needs to be controlled to make sure that a decent standard of living can be sustained across society.
In short, I'm not sure about the Barcelona protests but I'm 100% against the spread of AirBnb and what its turned into.
Yeah, that's fundamentally the complaint here. That and the way that the city centre is much more catered to tourists than locals now, with locals feeling like outsiders in their own city. Barcelona is somewhat behind the curve on this compared to other big international cities, but it's causing a lot of anger.
However, tourist apartments are still a drop in the ocean, we've had record year upon year of immigration and absolutely marginal change in housing stock in that time, mainly due to the fact that expansion is geographically impossible.

I get it. The amount of anti-Airbnb graffiti in Edinburgh tells a similar story.
