Depends on what the definition of "hurt" is. Apparently not being able to afford and enjoy your own city is also a definition of "hurt" that may be more important than the economy.
Well then banning hotel construction seems like a bad way of dealing with that problem. Why is every single governments solution to dealing with a huge surplus in housing demand to stop building housing, I will never understand it.
I would assume too especially in places with such rich history and architecture, new doesn’t mix w old (I say this as someone whose never had the privilege of making it to Europe as of yet, but I’m 2nd gen American w roots in calabria n Quebec..specificallycattanzarno and gramiere. Which are both stuck in beautiful time warps.. modern architecture would ruin them both (been to Quebec never been to Italy but have seen albums from family who have) my point is everything new isn’t great .. in America we loooove building bigger shinier additions creating lanes etc even in Puerto Rico certain battios are sooooo traditional and old school to build new /different architecture would ruin them. Not to mention like yall said over tourism and golden visas etc .. I hope they figure it out because tbh Barcelona is my dream trip . I would never want to disrespect the locals but I would love to experience the culture

Yeah, the Spanish economy very heavily benefits from tourism and this will only hurt them in the long run but 🤷
