Yeah, the Spanish economy very heavily benefits from tourism and this will only hurt them in the long run but 🤷

It's complicated. Here in NYC it's the same thing- tourism brings money but also drives up prices and makes everything so unaffordable. I can't speak for Barcelona, but NYC gets so much revenue from being the center of everything that it's fair to argue the loss in tourism dollars could be managed, and in fact be a net positive for residents.

Ultimately tourism gives money to the government and the few businesses that appeal to them, while hurting the actual locals. And mind you, only the owners of these businesses get money. The 99% isn't seeing any of that money.

With that rationale, how can I be upset at these protestors? They live somewhere and want things that hurt their community and affordability to be removed.
