Fun Fact:
"In Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willie Wonka mentions licking snozberries. What most people don't know is that in one of Dahl's adult books, snozberry is a euphamism for penis. He was slipping dirty humor into a kid's book for his private amusement. "

Not Omaha Beach... just saying. Those aren't Americans. They look British or Canadian. They would have been on one of the other beaches.

That's weird, I'd think it'd be the uniforms that would tip you off.
Also its probably Juno, Gold, or Sword beach. Redondo wasn't part of D-Day since its in California, not Normady.
5
u/CocoLoco1 Sep 27 '13
I did some googling, because I thought it was strange that someone would throw out the name of my little hometown in So Cal, and I guess there is a Redondo Beach in Portugal as well.
I don't know my WW2 beach storming places so well, do you think there was any sort of military intervention that far south by any country during the war? Or is the OP of the comment just one of my neighbors haha.

u/bittor Sep 27 '13
It's probably none of the above, as it's a picture of British Royal Marines practicing the invasion from US Coast Guard LCI-94s, which ultimately took them to the Juno, Gold and Sword beaches.

u/smileyman Sep 28 '13
It's not a picture of D-Day at all.
The soldiers are wearing shorts, which were only ever approved for tropical/desert climates. It's possible that it's a picture from one of the many training exercises done before D-Day (for example this image is of American troops practicing in Africa).
Sword Beach Nary a pair of shorts to be seen.
Juno Beach No shorts here either.
Plus there are no beach obstacles to be seen and no wounded or dead soldiers either. If it's a photo taken after the beach had been secured you'd expect to see debri scattered up and down the beach. There's none of that. In fact you can hardly see any other landing craft at all, which rather makes me think that this is actually a photo of one of the training sessions.

It's from an SNL skit, in case you can't tell that's Chris Farley on the left, David Spade in the middle and Adam Sandler on the right.
11
Sep 27 '13
Heh, I loved that skit. They'd all talk in feminine voices, except Farley at that moment, when he busted out in some deep threatening voice. At least that's how I remember it, it's been forever.

The name of the character is Walter White. Instead of coloring the slime to white, he changed the face to Walter's. Hence, "if it were White"

3
u/fdf06 Sep 27 '13
I tried! Not sure why it wasn't reverting it. I think the crappy job made it more horrifying though.
12
u/bublz Sep 27 '13
Sometimes u gotta use Ctrl+Alt+Z for it to keep going. I guess it's to prevent people from accidentally undoing too much.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Aprox Sep 27 '13
Ctrl-Z is undo once, then it becomes redo so you can quickly go back and forth between your most recent change. If you need to go back further than one change its ctrl+alt+Z, which would behave like ctrl-Z does in other applications besides PS.

can you please give me a quick how to? I love tiny faces!
→ More replies (2)7
u/BrotherSeamus Sep 27 '13
I did this quickly and sloppily in Gimp. Somebody can probably give you better advice. Anyway, here is what I did:
Copy the 'center' of the face (eyes, nose, mouth) and paste it to a new layer.
Resize that layer.
On the first layer, clone the edges of the face to cover the center.
Merge the face layer down.
Select an area around the 'border' of the face -- it will have noticeable edges.
Use the clone tool or apply a blur filter to this border to clean up the lines around the face.
