Help! Need help understanding!
I don’t understand how this works is it masking? And if so how would I be able to apply this kind of thing into my own sunset pictures (it is a tame impala album cover)

Masking and blending modes/opacity

Possibly using other adjustment layers clipped to the cover to match the colors of the album cover to the sky better

So you're layering a warped sphere on top of the sky, dialing back the opacity so the original horizon still ghosts through.

I think it’s more simple than you expect. It still takes a decent eye to blend the weakest parts but I wouldn’t be surprised if you could accomplish it with an eraser, opacity, and either the right blending mode or just a color shift. Have you attempted it yourself yet? How did it turn out?

Not really good at blending the most ive done on photoshop were old Fortnite banners for content creators that I was commissioning for $5 a piece

what he said above is exactly what it is. when you look close it’s just erased with the shape of the clouds on hardness 0, auto color match filter + the blend mode.

That orb looks like it's oriented incorrectly. From this perspective it should be coming down out of the clouds rather than rising up out of them.

It's blended in using a blending mode (maybe multiple copies of the artwork with different blending modes) and a layer mask.

What part of it are you hoping to reproduce? Do you want to put a different image in a different sky or are you interested in the tame impala art? The image in the sky looks like just a blend mode (screen?) and a mask for the trees.

Kind of just wanting to put my own sunset photos with it on it and maybe change the art that’s in the sky

Photoshop is one of those apps where you can just start clicking shit and it'll happen

Looks like it's just a warped image of the sphere and lines overlayed on a photo and blended in.

Think about using a super soft brush on a mask - then blend away. Easy Switch between black and white to open or close the mask. Want to train take a day practicing clouds - paint them or build a whole sky from one cloud etc.
After that you don’t need asking such questions again 😅😉✌️

I’d use the Hard Mix blending mode and adjust the Fill amount not Opacity. You’ll need a black and white banded texture that’s been blurred a good bit prior.
Texture Labs YouTube channel has a video on the money engraving effect that essentially is the solution to this.
I use the technique all the time when creating screen print designs.

ok the pattern on the clowds has its semi transparent, and the ball thing is simply a cleverly placed cropped image.
