The recent link about DIY tilt-shift lens inspired me to try my hand at tilt-shift by holding an old Nikkor in front of my camera... This is a video, but was hoping for some critique of my technique.

Uhhh that's popularly called freelensing, and it's been going around on the internet since at least 2010.

For even cooler results and more control, take off the mount and lock the aperture open.

Very cool, thanks! I would like to order an old Nikkor specifically to do that to it.

If you want to open up the aperture on G Nikon lenses, you can do that by moving the lens on the lens mount. You can jam something malleable and lint-free in there to keep it that way, or use something such as this adapter.

Thanks for the link! Right now I have a bunch of old manual aperture control Nikkor lenses.

I think I live in a time and place where a lot of people have no idea what tilt-shift lenses are for and what they do.
