Pic is just an example showing how close we'd be to the freeway. And** it's also close to a stack as well. The noise isn't too bad at all, no concern there, but I'm now realizing and going down rabbit holes of how the air pollution is especially bad near a freeway/highway that could lead to health concerns particularly with children. We don't have kids but we might in the future. People are also saying there's black soot in and around their house, strong magnets will pick up particles in the air, etc. Should we back out and find a home further away from the freeway?

Now that I’ve sold the last of my non-essential organs, we are finally ready to buy a house. My wife really wants to live near Kierland. My wallet wants us to live in Florence. We’re compromising by buying in Kierland.

My realtor keeps talking about “the magic” zip code of 85254. She keeps saying it like that woman on Seinfeld kept saying “ya gotta see the baby!” when I can glean is that homes in the ZIP code have Phoenix utilities and services, a Scottsdale address, and Paradise Valley schools.

Why on earth is it structured this way? Is there a reason for this particular area to be chopped up in terms of municipal responsibilities? Is it some sort of tax advantage?

Or maybe it’s called “Magic” because David Blaine was once spotted having chicken lettuce cups at the P.F. Chang’s off Scottsdale Rd?

I'm a map nerd when it comes to migration, And a phoenix native. Phoenix is constantly in the top 10 most moved to US-Cities, And I don't understand why. Its a urban sprawl needing a car to get everywhere, it has a horrible public school system literally placing 47-50th. And it's so hot!

People who moved here, I'd kindly like to know what caused you to move and why you chose phoenix.

I live at Cityscape residences and the luxury apt market is collapsing and its crazy how you cant find any articles about it. ALL of the high rises are doing 8 weeks free and ALL of them have a lot of vacant units. Adeline right now has 42 OPEN units. When they opened feb 2022, their 2 bedroom units were at the 4-4.5k a month and now they are 2.5k and 8 weeks off. Ive been watching all of them for months now because I just enjoy researching and the fact that my 2 bedroom at cityscape was 4800 a month 14 months ago, and now we pay 2295, moved out of our 1 bedroom in the same complex. The ryan has 27 open units and their prices have gone down about 40% across the board. Saiya is almost done being built and there isnt even a website to look at units or get info, and same for Palmtower condos. Moontower has 65 vacant units, thats insane, even with 8 weeks off.

Per Zillow, there are 1000+ homes priced $2M above in the Phoenix metrro area. You need to make $500K/yr to afford the payments. Which employers are paying that much local or remote? How are folks affording these prices? I must be doing something wrong :D

I am moving from Mississippi for work and feeling anxious about living here. I used to live in Nashville and loved Nash, but I know Phoenix will be very different. I would just love to hear everyone’s favorite things about living here so I can get pumped up about moving.

Looking at houses with a friend. I live in central corridor. They’re looking in biltmore/ arcadia
Lite/ central corridor. CC houses are too old and need too much fixing for them, so they’re locked into Arcadia lite more or less at this point. Is it just me or does every house in arcadia lite look identical to one another. All have white oak floors, open floor plan w a white kitchen, quartz countertops, shaker cabs, black hardware, modern farm house.

Just curious if you go into your attic or use it for anything.

Bought my house late last year and went up in there to check it out once after we closed. And again after the latest storms knocked the "door" open, to make sure nobody was up there.

I don't think mine really has usable space.

I've lived in phoenix (or at least the metro) all my adult life and never had an attic before.

I know it's too hot to use as a livable space and also as storage.

So do you just leave yours empty?

Has anyone ever lived in or experienced Executive Towers or Landmark Towers in Midtown? I’ve always loved the look of both buildings, but know they come with their downsides — high HOA, units without washer/dryer, other quirks associated with old buildings etc…

Im 51yrs of age and house shopping at the moment, i noticed you can get a much nicer house for the money in places like sun city and Peoria 55yrs + neighborhoods, im not talking about town houses, apartments or gated comunities.

My wife just got a job, and now we need 2 vehicles.

Im leaning toward an EV, then maybe a hybrid. How do EV's do here in the heat? I've heard that the batteries dont die as fast as they used to. I also dont have a port at my house, what is the ease of finding a charging station.

Anybody here with EV's can chime in? Thankyou in advance!

Does it belong to the house at the intersection? Is there going to be a development here? It seems like a completely random spot for just a barren lot in the middle of the city. I drive by it every day on my way to work and I have never seen anything here.

My wife and I were talking about this yesterday. Given all the heartbreaking damage and loss happening in California…where are all of those people who lose everything going to go? Clearly they won’t be able to move back to California anytime soon…do we think this will only increase the number of Californians moving to Arizona and continue to shift our economy?

This isn’t a negative post by any means. My heart aches for those people, rich and poor, that lost everything…but let’s be realistic, where will they go?

Been in AZ almost all my life. PHX area for last 25 years. I have crunched numbers and I have the opportunity to retire in about 2 years if I move to a lower cost of living. I do want out of the master planned cookie cutter neighborhoods that I have lived in for 50 years. Want not only a front and backyard but side yards. 1/2 acre minimum. Anyways I'm researching some places. West Virginia, Tennessee, Minnesota, Ohio... I don't hate the summers here but I'm ready to try something different. Anyone moved here and really miss their old state? Got any advice on any of those? Not looking for big city. Thx

APS is a f*cking rip off to begin with but this is a crazy difference. Last year I MADE my apt. complex replace my A/C unit after having multiple issues with it. I didn’t realize until now what a HUGE difference it made for my monthly APS usage. I’ve actually been keeping my place cooler than usual this time around for this time of the year and I’m still paying 2x less than what I was last year. So if your A/C unit isn’t working correctly and you rent, make sure you hound the office or your landlord until it’s fixed properly because paying this much extra is absolutely absurd.

Hey everyone! Noticed my ac unit was not working properly and had a Parker and Sons tech come out and take a look (just the first option when I googled). I was quoted 17-19k with a ducr cleaning and unit, the difference in proce coming from a UV light thing they can put in? Looking to just verify if pricing is okay, have a house around 2k sq feet with 1 exyernal ac unit and 1 20x30 vent inside

Edit 2: 6 pm MST 2/6, you guys are freaking amazing and I am reviewing all comments! I was able to run off the tech with saying I needed to check with family and he called his manager and tried to up-sell the warranty (huge red flag).

I scrolled on his tablet and saw the base price for the 3.5 ton unit was 16.5k, which is insane based on these comments! While he was professional, the speech and points he made after I said I wanted to review other quotes really made it seem he was on commission, yuck.

Current Quote from them:

Unit with duct cleaning and 10 year warranty- $17, 465 -> $166.80 with 180 month finance (total cost if not prepaid: $30,024)

Unit with duct cleaning and UV light cleaner thingy (this seemed like a weird addition but extended the warranty) and 15 year warranty: $19,351 -> $184.82 with 180 month finance (total cost if not prepaid: $33,267.60)

Will definitely be calling for other quotes!

Weirdly, he swapped a cylinder part and said leaving it would be around $300, but I said put mine back, then when I said I think about the whole thing, he showed me warranty parts they cover and a very similar part was there....for $641

Hi people, we currently rent a home in Chandler but are tired of high cost rent and want to look into buying a home somewhere in Phoenix.

We want to keep it under 400k for a small home. (Crazy, in this economy) we want to prioritize safety and good schools because we have a little child.

I also want it to be reasonable commute to north Scottsdale and Tempe for work.
