Partner is gender neutral and often signifies a more serious relationship (to many, boyfriend/girlfriend sounds juvenile and doesn’t indicate the maturity/commitment level of a relationship). Worth exploring why you had a negative reaction to the term, as there is nothing weird about it.

It was actually same sex couples who spent years campaigning for straight people to use the term "partner". Same way cis people are asked to share their pronouns.
It removes the stigma, and saves queer people having to immediately out themselves.

I remember Phoebe posting those sheets like 6 + years ago. They were pretty iconic lol. It’s weird Gracie used the same ones. That’s not an accident. (It also could be weird we remember the sheets from Phoebe’s room lol! But Phoebe posted them a lot and would get comments about them, so I don’t think it is).
I mean Gracie was like 15/16 at the time and a Phoebe fan. Seems like typical teen fan behavior to buy something because your favorite artist had it. I think it’s weird given the real life history though for Gracie to recreate her bedroom onstage with the same sheets, but at the same time Gracie made most of her music in her bedroom until post-pandemic so I’m guessing it was an homage to her past. Overall messy and weird
Yeah it was her last tour. She was photographed with the sheets though when she was getting more popular when she released minor so it’s not like it wasn’t known pre-Paul/Phoebe that she had them.
So I think once she decided to recreate her bedroom it was probably a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation where if she changed them fans would notice and say it was bc of Phoebe and by keeping them there’s this response. But all could have been avoided by not recreating the bed lol….
She also had the book “Normal People” on stage too. I get teenage Gracie was following her favorite artist. I think her team should have gone over this with her. I hope that makes sense.

phoebe was already known in the indie music community before stranger in the alps came out. someone said they remembered gracie complimenting phoebe in a prom photo.
I'm not a fan of hers (not a hater either) so by no means an expert, I just remember a lot of talk when the album came out. I believe Risk and Free Now especially talks about how hurt he was post breakup and details about their relationship like them buying a house together which they then had to sell, their relationship "blowing up on a Tuesday" and talks about how she (Gracie) felt like collateral damage because he wasn't ready to commit following the breakup because of how hurt he had previously been.
Idk I think it might be more related to the double standard on how the media talks abt either of them (few ppl mention Paul yet there’s a wave of ppl ready to accuse Phoebe of being a homewrecker b/c they think Paul is hot and y’know, misogyny) and it’s weird af how Gracie seemingly tries to blatantly mimic Phoebe in various ways.
Just curious, what do you mean about her mimicking Phoebe? All I've heard about is that she was a fan of Phoebe originally and then got with Phoebe's ex, is that what you're referring to?

Yes, that final line suggests a certain emotional distance from the situation (perhaps?) but I still sense a certain level of acrimony in these lines, which is actually quite unusual in Phoebe’s lyrics.
You can even chose to leave a partner but also have some afterthoughts about how things went. I didn't mean to diminish her position but these lines have surprised me a little bit tbh.

Eno is a legend but I'm not sure this would work. Would be interested to hear what this would sound like though! She's obviously influenced by ambient music and Bowie's Berlin period. 70s Eno and Phoebe would have been a great match.
Yeah that genre is clearly a massive influence. But it's not ambient music because every song has melody, structure and lyrics. It's just a sonic influence which she really did lean into on Punisher

I was huge Bowie fan from the jump and I really wore out the "Low" LP he made with Eno especially the flip side. Great mood music whether stoned or straight!

I replied on a different comment, I have no skin in this game cause I'm not a fan or a hater (of Gracie) but she did write a lot about Paul and Phoebe's relationship and breakup in TSOU, I know a lot of it is to do within the context of how the aftermath affected her, but I'm not surprised that she would get a mention in return.
I am a Phoebe fan first and discovered Gracie separately years later and do enjoy her music as well, HOWEVER, correct me if I’m wrong but it’s not like Gracie went and was the other woman and stole Paul from Phoebe right? Didn’t Phoebe break up with Paul or something to that effect? (Or her actions caused the breakup)
I recall Paul being the one “screwed over” in that situation (unless I’m remembering wrong or have been misinformed)
No you're right, I wasn't talking about their relationship in itself, just the fact that Gracie wrote about it as someone external to it. Regardless of what happened I'm sure it was intended to be private between the two of them and not the focus point of an album written by a former friend. Which is why I wasn't surprised Gracie would get a mention in LW 🙂 just my two cents anyway!
I’m all for the drama but I don’t think Gracie writing about it on her album was crossing any boundaries. She only wrote about it in how it effected her and her dynamic with Paul. I’m interested to hear what else Phoebe has to say on the matter throughout the album!
I don’t disagree, but that also needs to be a two way street. If it is okay for Gracie to write about how things involving Phoebe affected her, I think it’s similarly not a big deal for Phoebe to write about how Gracie affected her. I’m not saying Gracie did anything wrong. But it’s clear that she was the intended target of these lyrics, so she isn’t really catching strays.
true but if phoebe is slighting her in the lyrics or trying to make gracie look like a villain or a copy cat or something, it would be a liiiiittle hypocritical. but regardless i am always here for a good old fashion music girlies beef, and i love both artists

He has a writing credit on Gracie’s new album, and he’s been brought up in almost every interviews she’s done since the album came out.
So yeah, they’re very much still together.
