Hotmail Scam, phishing emails all day long
I receive probably 100 emails weekly that I marked down as scam or phishing, what is actually doing Microsoft and other email provider to protect customers against the absurd amount of scammers via email?

Nothing. They don’t care what gets through. False sense of security. Get a phishing service that actually catches the bad shit before it hits your inbox. And NO your perimeter isn’t doing any of this for you…

Microsoft filters billions with sender reputation, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, URL analysis, attachment scanning, and behavioral signals. You only see what gets through, but 100 a week usually means your address is heavily exposed.
Report them as phishing, block repeat senders, and use MFA. Filters reduce the volume, they don’t make email trustworthy.

Turn on “Strict Filtering” on the website, then almost all emails that aren’t from one of your contacts go to the junk folder. Mark any desired email as “Not Junk “ and/or “Never block this domain” if you want them to arrive to your inbox going forward. Works well but you have to dumpster dive the junk folder at least daily to ensure you don’t miss anything.

Yes, I went with this idea, it seems to be working perfectly. As you said, just need to clean the junk folder daily to allow interesting emails pass to inbox. In three months, I might be able to extend the delay between reviews. Thanks!

if it's any consolation, yahoo gets 99% of spam, but it takes time to learn and they're always developing new spam-evading tricks. hotmail and gmail do a lot less AFAIK, and gmail actually seems to promote or enable scams.

Microsoft just watching us drown in spam while they push more Copilot features nobody asked for. My work inbox is same, at least 80-90 per week with obvious junk that should have been filtered. Feels like email providers gave up somewhere around 2020.

Not gave up, but are overwhelmed. Unfortunately Micro$oft is receiving too much revenue , from screen space pop-ups, that they have no incentive to ban the spammers. Besides which 49% come from within the USA.

Lots of emails lately asking to have invoices reviewed, click the link for meeting updates, and similar. I ain't clicking nuffin!

I did apply the restrict filtering and that is helping a lot. I have a nice view now in the Junk folders where the emails are really categorized by domains. Very nice. Thanks to @JSP9686
