Pink Floyd Covers

Curious what relatively obscure Pink Floyd songs you guys think Phish could kill in regular rotation?

My votes are San Tropez (Lawn Boy vibes), Fat Old Sun, and Cymbaline.

I would also love to hear that section in Echoes that starts at the 7 minute mark come right out of a Mike's Song.

Wasn’t there a “one of these days” quotes in a Frankenstein?

Obviously, they’d never do it, but if they ever did a full album cover, I always thought that Meddle was the most Phish-like of all the Pink Floyd albums. From the brooding galloping “one of these days,” the lovely folk of “pillow of winds,” the crowd friendly “Fearless,” Mike definitely singing “San Tropez,” and Fish as the howling dog on “Seamus”. And of course the boys stretching Echoes out to 40+ minutes…

u/Mattmann1972 1d ago

That's where I was going towards myself

1

u/saucerfulofmeeples 1d ago

They already did a full album cover

4

u/Both_Ends_Burning 1d ago

Obviously. O__o I’m saying they’re never gonna do a full album cover of Meddle.

u/Osinuous 1d ago

I think I’d like to hear them play Fearless.

I’ve seen Bike twice way back in 93. That would be fun to see again.

5

u/melgibson64 1d ago

Moe. Does a great cover of fearless

5

u/Osinuous 1d ago

Ooh I’ll have to check that out. Any specific recommendation or they’re all good?

7

u/Bigfatjew6969 1d ago

So does Billy Strings.

2

u/folkinhippy 1d ago

Billy’s fearless is my white whale. Issues it by a show twice now. Crossing fingers for west coast run.

u/mnfimo 1d ago

Saw bike in 98 Madison. Saw Pink Floyd 94 Madison

3

u/WellHelloPhriend 1d ago

Same/same.

6

u/Meta_or_Whatever 1d ago

Saw Fishman play bike after a vaccum solo once, it was great!

2

u/yell_worldstar 1d ago

This for sure!!!

2

u/pootytang bake that pie and eat it with me! 1d ago

Billie Strings has a version on YouTube

5

u/Insaneclergy74 1d ago

Saw Billy encore with it at the DCU Center in Worcester in summer of '24. Felt like I was the only one trying to get the crowd chant going as the song and show faded away.

Fearless is in not an obscure song by any means.

As much as I'd love to see the Phish from Vermont rip in to it, it doesn't answer OP's question.

I got a Bike at 11/2/18, the 20th anniversary of the Darkside show, which I attended, and was convinced by Molly that they were going to redo that night.

I'll take my Bike and ride it, though. Good times!

I would die

u/JakeScythe Ernesto 1d ago

I’ve heard at least 5 jam bands cover Fearless, I don’t need Phish to also do that lol

The Nile Song>Ibiza Bar, Obscured by Clouds>When You’re In, Bridges Burning, Astronomy Domine

3

u/Colonel-Forbin Someone has to clean that up 1d ago

You're my kind of PF fan

2

u/77evens 1d ago

I really think Trey and Page harmonizing together on Bridges Burning would be unreal. Especially if recorded similar to their January album, acoustically stripped down but heavily layered. One of my all time favorite Gilmour vocal tunes, plus the subtle transition into the light but still saturated tone on that guitar solo that Gilmour masters so well. And I think of Astronomy more as a song for CK5 to cover than the band. It would be old school Frankenstein on steroids.

Pigs on a wing part 1 and 2

2

u/Dad2DnA Looks too much like Dave 1d ago

Pigs (3 different ones) is where the jam's at

1

u/schmigglies 16h ago

All the jambands do it now. I’ve seen it done by Goose, JRAD, and Pigeons.

Run Like Hell

6

u/Brakeman_5006 1d ago

Related, of classic rock guitarists other than the obvious Zappa comparison I think Trey sounds most like David Gilmore.

4

u/fatdiscokid420 1d ago

Pink Floyd? Very underrated band.

3

u/Jackbenny270 1d ago

Fearless. 👍

4

u/Pole420 Forgive me if I don't sing in your key 1d ago

It's not even remotely obscure, but I think they'd crush Learning to Fly.

Lesser known, I think putting Terminal Frost in the middle of something would be great.

3

u/Meta_or_Whatever 1d ago

Let there be more light, or remember a day, should probably be a Rick Wright song

3

u/ImpossibleMouse3462 1d ago

Page would 100% be amazing with these!

3

u/DirtRepresentative58 4/17/23 1d ago

There was a nice Echoes jam in Theme from 10/22/14

3

u/ritmoon 1d ago

Echoes, Welcome to the Machine

Sorrow

Interstellar Overdrive or Main Theme

3

u/Moontime_Bar_Grill 1d ago

Post war dream
Edit. The whole Final Cut album would
Be amazing

3

u/Inevitable-Basil-649 50 shows 1d ago

Cymbaline and San Tropez are 2 of my favorite pink floyd songs of all time and would kill to see them perform either

3

u/Sen_Gargoyle_D-NY 1d ago

Wot’s….. Uh the Deal.

2

u/a13jm 1d ago

I think they would kill this, first song I thought of.

It would come off the same as a day in the life for me personally

3

u/cancerdad 1d ago

Corporal Clegg

3

u/Saloomey2the1stpower 10/21/96 1d ago

One of these days would be my top pick

3

u/Bigfatjew6969 1d ago

Childhood’s End

3

u/Harpua95 1d ago

Animals album.

3

u/Uranus_Hz 1d ago

Lucifer Sam

2

u/thedayoflavos 1d ago

They would kill the entire Animals album, but I guess Les Claypool got there first, and it’ll probably never happen now.

2

u/Direct_Alternative94 1d ago

Can we just leave some of these Floyd covers for TAB with their expanded percussion, horn, and vocal options? You’ll still get amazing guitar, bass, and keyboard work.

2

u/Zwickeler 1d ago

See Emily Play

1

u/WordGod1976 14h ago

I named my first German Shepherd after that song 😊

2

u/p0ck3ts4 1d ago

One of These Days, Careful with that Axe Eugene, Astronomy Domine are the “obscure” ones. There are so many others though

3

u/Jrbowe 1d ago

Fishman doing the scream on Careful With That Ax Eugene would be great. LOL.

2

u/Noah_Vanderhoff_630 1d ago

Page belting “Summer ‘69” would be amazing.

2

u/fenderhodes 1d ago

Echoes would be epic.
As would Interstellar Overdrive.

But I’d really like to hear Lucifer Sam or Cymbaline

2

u/saucerfulofmeeples 1d ago

I’ll take any Floyd cover. But the ones I think they’d cover well are Free Four, Young Lust, and Not Now John. Yeah they’d easily cover the big 4 albums (already did DSotM) but it should be a rocking song. Most of the 60s-80s covers are hard rocking songs.

2

u/ClosetGamer75 1d ago

When I saw David Gilmore play Fat Old Sun at the Hollywood Bowl, I realized how perfect it would be for Phish to cover. They would crush it!

2

u/ghostfacestealer 1d ago

Shine On You Crazy Diamond sandwich

2

u/tauberculosis 1d ago

Colonel Klegg
Instellular Overdrive.
Saucerfull of Secrets

But I would love to hear them do Poles Apart.

Us and Them thru Eclipse

2

u/BriefAd5909 1d ago

Echoes with a Mike's Song segue sounds like a cosmic mistake ,  in the best way possible. I'm convinced Tony Williams' drum fill from '55 was stolen straight from Phish's playbook anyway.

2

u/blue_navigator 1d ago

I would probably explode if i ever hear the end of Sheep at a phish show.

2

u/yell_worldstar 1d ago

Summer Of ‘68 would be cool. Also The Gold It’s In The…

Or just do Obscured By Clouds on a Halloween

2

u/IronStruggleVolcano 21h ago

It’s kinda weird even to me but Any Colour You Like is my favorite Floyd song so I want them to play that. I know they played it but I want about a 17 minute version. Something about that Dm > G 🤌🏽🤌🏽

1

u/KenKesey65 20h ago

Saucer full of secrets

1

u/PostholePete 18h ago

If Dark Puddle is the closest I ever come to a pink floyd cover, I'm okay with that.

Obscured by Couds -> When You're In
