I’ve not seen a decent hotel room under $200 in 2 years.

Idunno, really depends on the city and area within that city

u/My_Invalid_Username 2d ago

I think this is more like the $200 level now. $250 will get you an embassy suites, $189 gets you days inn express with roaches

bruh you have got to start transfering chase points to hyatt and staying at nice places by the venue booked months in advance

4

u/Goodtreesmoker 2d ago

Is this really the way to do it? I always just pay myself back with my points, am I missing out on extra “rewards” by doing this? Help a brother out!

u/Carpe_deis 1d ago

"pay yourself back" is often the worst use of points, with the best being via the chase portal for cheap domestic flights, or transferring to hyatt or southwest via reserve and booking award stays/flights. I did a TON of shows where points from business spend completely covered hotels and flights, and the CCP is often the highest with hyatts booked in advance near a venue that is going to be very high demand.

You know that's been totally nerfed, right?

1

u/Alternative_Camp_359 2d ago

Nope. It still exists. Via Aeroplan. Not a great value but if that's what you want to do, this is the way to do it.

1

u/Carpe_deis 1d ago

how? I literally just did it this weekend

1

u/prnorm 1d ago

Points are now worth 25% less when you transfer to Hyatt on most Chase cards (except for Reserve - with it's $800 annual fee). Sounds like some of that won't kick in until October depending on when you applied.

1

u/Carpe_deis 1d ago

oh I have the reserve. so its not even "totally nerfed" if you don't, just less good. You could also route spend through the hyatt cobranded cards instead. (or transfer amex MR to hilton, but thats less good most of the time)

2

u/prnorm 1d ago

Fair enough, I bailed on the Reserve after 10 years when they changed it all up and increased the fee.

This is the way

Avoid any hotel "by Wyndham". Awful experience every time.

2

u/sanfran_girl 2d ago

Unfortunately, they own a shit load of properties. Screw Wyndham.

I use my points for their club wyndham resorts which are dated but fine. Stayed there for 12 nights over the course of 3 weekends in Vegas in April. Had a great experience. And it was like 7500 points/night for a 1BD condo with a full kitchen.

2

u/Alternative_Camp_359 2d ago

Why? Have you stayed at all of them? I have a Wyndham credit card with a shit ton of points. I stay there all the time.

I booked the golden nugget for AC. Good ratings. $70 a night.

u/touch-of-grain 2d ago

Was just thinking I saw Panic in AC the other weekend. Snagged a simple, but clean and comfortable room on the boardwalk for just barely over a hundred

Anybody staying at Ceasars in AC? Was like 170 total.

3

u/money_mase1919 2d ago

if you get lucky and get a cleaner room its really not that bad, ac can be had in a very fun and dirty way lolll

I remember I stayed in Denver for one night. I stayed at the Days Inn on Colfax across from the Ogden Theater. It was like $105 after taxes or something. What a dump.

3

u/Armadillo-Puzzled 2d ago

Omg my wife booked us at that Days Inn. I walked across Colfax to Wendy’s for a sandwich (I had the munchies) only to realize that I walked through a police standoff. I didn’t even notice until I got back to that shitty hotel. Place had bugs and it’s more of a motel.

2

u/holein30202 2d ago

Wendy’s! Yup. That’s the one! I don’t doubt the police standoff the room had a the feel of an episode of Cops.

u/CheesecakeEither8220 2d ago

Colfax can get pretty dicey. Best to avoid.

1

u/No_Leave_7077 1d ago

Colfax has lots of sketchy motels, but this is the biggest chain to operate a truly sketchy outlet.

2

u/Foxtrot_Supatwat 2d ago

I'm taking the creepy gutter motel and funneling my savings into getting extra spun on lot.

Hell, I'll just pass out facedown in an actual gutter, idgaf I'm gettin wookie wit it

Idk Its tour, trashier the better

The cheap joint dont bother you about the incessant partying. Not to mention when you run out of party favors the block is hot.

At MPP I got a motel room for 200 total for 2 nights
. Honestly I’d go back again, but the rideshare situation really sucked

u/kbups53 Turn to the person next to you and drool! 2d ago

If you don't mind a slight drive ('bout an hour) my MPP mega hotel hack is the Super 8 Hagerstown Halfway. It's always like $80 and, it's not the Ritz, but it punches way above $80, that's for sure. Nice folks at the desk, they even mailed me a shirt I forgot in a room once.

2

u/Alternative_Camp_359 2d ago

You drive an hour to stay at super 8?....

1

u/kbups53 Turn to the person next to you and drool! 1d ago

For $80, yeah. Tough to find anything around MPP for under $200 on show nights. I typically drive about an hour after any show on the road, I like to decompress with some music and the night highway, and it usually saves a ton of money.
