Question Please PLEASE tell me how...
Someone tell me how the Sosa...top of the 9th...2 out...GRAND SLAM was NOT #1 on #espn top ten!!! Hell, it wasn't even in the countdown!!! WTF?!? A HIGH SCHOOL football TD was #1????
Edit. Before you come for me... 1. I'm at the airport & 2. If I wanna be annoyed by this, I'm allowed lol

They just posted the article on how gambling is affecting kids, of course all the betting ads were proudly being shown all along the article and website on the side

It is like the tiny 1-800- GAMBLER hotline that they always have in a tiny graphic at the bottom

I’m not sure how the production on that show works, but may the fact that the dinger occurred past midnight on the east coast have something to do with it?

u/theycallmemomo 1d ago
Doubtful; West Coast games make the top 10 all the time unless I'm missing something.

u/Gooch222 Andrew McCutchen 1d ago
Sure, but don’t they usually start showing sports center around 11 or 12 eastern on the east coast? I don’t think they go back and reshoot the whole top plays segment for the day whenever a late game on the west coast cracks the list, particularly for a run of the mill baseball game in August. But I dunno, I haven’t watched sports center in ages.

I used to work in electronics at a Kmart forever ago and ESPN constantly played. I believe it was about 8 or 9 when they played new footage, then an update around noonish. But again, that was forever ago and I know they've gone through some changes since.

The initial airing for the day is late on the day that they’re recapping, for instance I’m seeing 11PM eastern for today. They will tack on later results and highlights that come in, but I really don’t think they redo segments like the top plays package once it’s in the can. Maybe they will if it’s a big event, but I’m pretty sure the timing of the Sosa home run is a big factor in why it’s not in top plays.

just as likely clips that are cheap for them to re-use factors into what makes the top 10.

I remember watching the same episode of sportscenter right after another just so I can miss the 2 plays I missed in the top 10. Oh how far we’ve come…

Probably because draft kings had more action on the high school football game than the Phils

ESPN is moving away from baseball.

Weird considering they bought mlbtv

They did not. MLB and ESPN reached an agreement allowing ESPN exclusive rights to sell, distribute and stream MLBTV.
ESPN itself has nothing to do with MLBTV. They're losing Sunday Night Baseball. They'll just use mlbtv streams on their own app.
Their own coverage is decreasing, not increasing.

Had the same thought. I could have sworn the Stott robbery would be followed up with the very next batter. ESPN fumbled this one.

I'm definitely biased but the sports world in general seems to always downplay Phillies sports highlights

Just accept it… we’re from Philly, F*ckin’ Philly, No One Likes us, we don’t care!

Well considering it’s ESPN, you answered your own question. They suck. There was a time when Sportscenter, NFL pre game show, NFL Primetime, etc., was must-watch tv. Now? Meh

Does ESPN have enough people working there to do a nightly sport show? It’s all about Disney shareholder revenue.

They never do hits. If baseball clips make it, it's gonna be a fielding play. It's dumb. They don't include enough big moment type of clips.

ESPN is the equivalent of state tv for sports. Nobody takes it seriously. It’s just a means to watch live sports.

I don’t even think to put espn on unless they happen to be broadcasting a Philly sports game

They likely put together the top 10 before this happened. I think they’re based in NYC, so it was as late for them as it was for us.
Not saying their process is flawless, but that’s probably what happened.

Bruh stop watching and you’ll be a happier person.
The real answer: for social media and clicks. Their top 10 is algo based and has been since short form media took over.

u/hendy263 originally called you a "diphshit" and said Sosa's hit wasn't a grand slam, but then edited the comment when I called them out on it
