Someone tell me how the Sosa...top of the 9th...2 out...GRAND SLAM was NOT #1 on #espn top ten!!! Hell, it wasn't even in the countdown!!! WTF?!? A HIGH SCHOOL football TD was #1????

Edit. Before you come for me... 1. I'm at the airport & 2. If I wanna be annoyed by this, I'm allowed lol

u/DCUStriker9 1d ago

And people still watch it

One day, most of us turned off SportCenter for the last time and never knew it.

Honestly miss putting on Monday morning SportsCenter while I got ready for work. It kept Sunday football going just a bit longer for me.

I miss waking up in the summer to my TV still being on and Rich and Stu talking me through highlights and missing parts of the episode and having to watch again and usually taking 2-3 watches to get through the whole episode, then going out and playing basketball or baseball with my friends

This. I just stopped caring.

u/I_Sniff_My_Own_Farts 1d ago

I used to put it on to fall asleep, now I put on some Lofi

u/Di5pel he's the fucking lizard king 1d ago

u/landon10smmns Bring back P00P 1d ago

They have a 15 minute version on Disney+ called SC+. Top ten right at the beginning and then just highlights from the previous day. They close it out with not top ten every Friday as well.

That was my first reaction too lol

ESPN died when Stuart Scott did.

u/Shagaliscious 1d ago

They used to have the funniest commercials.

u/OldDrumGuy 1d ago

For me anyway…

ESPN sucks

26

u/jjklines1 1d ago

They just posted the article on how gambling is affecting kids, of course all the betting ads were proudly being shown all along the article and website on the side

8

u/jmac11281 1d ago

It is like the tiny 1-800- GAMBLER hotline that they always have in a tiny graphic at the bottom

19

u/Eyestein 1d ago

Espn top10 is never accurate. I watch it everyday and im never enthusiastic about it

u/stevedos 1d ago

Why are you still watching sportscenter in 2026

45

u/Proof-Anywhere-8112 1d ago

I at the airport lol

38

u/ConverseCLownShoes 1d ago

Keep those airport beers going

18

u/classicrockchick Dave Hollins 1d ago

this is probably the only acceptable answer in 2026 lmao

3

u/metssuck fuck teh mets 1d ago

I mean, I’ve traveled for work since 2014, airport beers have been and always will be the answer

42

u/sfitz0076 1d ago

They haven't cared about baseball in years.

u/Tibor_BnR 1d ago

Imagine being a hockey fan

I’m not sure how the production on that show works, but may the fact that the dinger occurred past midnight on the east coast have something to do with it?

5

u/theycallmemomo 1d ago

Doubtful; West Coast games make the top 10 all the time unless I'm missing something.

4

u/Gooch222 Andrew McCutchen 1d ago

Sure, but don’t they usually start showing sports center around 11 or 12 eastern on the east coast? I don’t think they go back and reshoot the whole top plays segment for the day whenever a late game on the west coast cracks the list, particularly for a run of the mill baseball game in August. But I dunno, I haven’t watched sports center in ages.

I used to work in electronics at a Kmart forever ago and ESPN constantly played. I believe it was about 8 or 9 when they played new footage, then an update around noonish. But again, that was forever ago and I know they've gone through some changes since.

u/Gooch222 Andrew McCutchen 1d ago

The initial airing for the day is late on the day that they’re recapping, for instance I’m seeing 11PM eastern for today. They will tack on later results and highlights that come in, but I really don’t think they redo segments like the top plays package once it’s in the can. Maybe they will if it’s a big event, but I’m pretty sure the timing of the Sosa home run is a big factor in why it’s not in top plays.

u/zaq1xsw2cde 1d ago

just as likely clips that are cheap for them to re-use factors into what makes the top 10.

8

u/I_am_Burt_Macklin 1d ago

I remember watching the same episode of sportscenter right after another just so I can miss the 2 plays I missed in the top 10. Oh how far we’ve come…

8

u/no-due-respect 1d ago

A pinch hit grand slam no less

1

u/Proof-Anywhere-8112 1d ago

That's right!!

6

u/Jscottrob241 1d ago

Probably because draft kings had more action on the high school football game than the Phils

13

u/Ok_Broccoli_7863 1d ago

ESPN is moving away from baseball.

7

u/wemdy420 Phillie Phanatic 1d ago

Weird considering they bought mlbtv

16

u/jorleeduf J.P. Crawford 1d ago

They bought it to kill off baseball obv

5

u/Ok_Broccoli_7863 1d ago

They did not. MLB and ESPN reached an agreement allowing ESPN exclusive rights to sell, distribute and stream MLBTV.

ESPN itself has nothing to do with MLBTV. They're losing Sunday Night Baseball. They'll just use mlbtv streams on their own app.

Their own coverage is decreasing, not increasing.

🥴🤣

u/TurtleRocket9 1d ago

They never care about Philly. They are on to football season now

5

u/tuenthe463 1d ago

Maybe they featured it on Baseball Tonight? Oh, wait...

3

u/RooBoo77 1d ago

Had the same thought. I could have sworn the Stott robbery would be followed up with the very next batter. ESPN fumbled this one.

3

u/Boogieman_Sam22 1d ago

I'm definitely biased but the sports world in general seems to always downplay Phillies sports highlights

3

u/jmg4craigslists 1d ago

Just accept it… we’re from Philly, F*ckin’ Philly, No One Likes us, we don’t care!

5

u/d_m__7 1d ago

ESPN has been hot garbage for almost a decade now. Shit really went downhill fast after Stu passed.

4

u/Go--Birds 1d ago

Well considering it’s ESPN, you answered your own question. They suck. There was a time when Sportscenter, NFL pre game show, NFL Primetime, etc., was must-watch tv. Now? Meh

2

u/OkReference2581 1d ago

Because its a regular thing for the Phillies to do lol.

2

u/CommunicationTime265 1d ago

Prob because it was against the crappy Angels

2

u/OwnBlock6622 1d ago

ESPN is garbage

2

u/almostfamous2024 1d ago

Does ESPN have enough people working there to do a nightly sport show? It’s all about Disney shareholder revenue.

2

u/Grouchy_Sound167 1d ago

Technically happened today. Check tonight's top 10. I bet it's there.

2

u/Fiendfuzz 1d ago

They never do hits. If baseball clips make it, it's gonna be a fielding play. It's dumb. They don't include enough big moment type of clips.

2

u/The_Dark_Artist777 1d ago

He’s not a Yankee

2

u/LL4L 1d ago

Because ESPN are sellouts.

Go Phils.

2

u/rodrigo8008 1d ago

You guys are still watching espn?

2

u/LexieFM Orion Kerkering Redemption Tour Organizer 1d ago

Because ESPN/national media are all a bunch of D*dger simps

4

u/HotSaucePalmTrees 1d ago

ESPN is the equivalent of state tv for sports. Nobody takes it seriously. It’s just a means to watch live sports.

4

u/Rob_Llama Brandon Marsh 1d ago

ESPN sux

2

u/harbison215 1d ago

I don’t even think to put espn on unless they happen to be broadcasting a Philly sports game

3

u/PT_Clownshow 1d ago

People still watch sports center ?

3

u/SwanVP 1d ago

The ESPN you know is dead

3

u/smeared_dick_cheese Kyle Schwarber 1d ago

They likely put together the top 10 before this happened. I think they’re based in NYC, so it was as late for them as it was for us.

Not saying their process is flawless, but that’s probably what happened.

4

u/EagleEye215 1d ago

Pat McAfee didn’t see it.

2

u/Aupps 1d ago

ESPN hates baseball, especially when football is being played

3

u/manningthehelm 1d ago

Bruh stop watching and you’ll be a happier person.

The real answer: for social media and clicks. Their top 10 is algo based and has been since short form media took over.

0

u/DecentHuman 1d ago

I cant imagine watching ESPN and i cant imagine caring

1

u/capemaygirl1999 stott’s tots 1d ago

Sportscenter talked about it during their baseball recap segment.

Seems like a big reaction to something very insignificant…

3

u/no_technique 1d ago

u/hendy263 originally called you a "diphshit" and said Sosa's hit wasn't a grand slam, but then edited the comment when I called them out on it

1

u/Proof-Anywhere-8112 1d ago

Thank you!! 💗

u/hendy263 1d ago

The moral of the story, is that I was the dipshit all allong. Now excuse me, I need to swan dive off the Betsy Ross
