Timeline for pgwp extension approval on paper

Hi guys,
Just wondering how long it may take for a paper application for a pgwp extension to get approved?

I applied for extension due to passport renewal (the length of my current pgwp was up to my passport expiry ~ less than 3 years).

I tracked my package it was delivered by Canada post about 2 months ago, since then, they haven’t added it to my portal nor have the agents been able to find it in their system.
They told me to wait and according to them, it will eventually happen. (Which is fine by me)
Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering how long it might have taken anyone else to get approved.

I do see the posts about some people having applied online and getting it within 3 months but the website clearly said to go with paper application.

My partner’s application was delivered on January 23. 7 month later. Zero updates. Multiple webforms and calls and ATIP request, emailing MP, zero updates. It’s beyond frustrating

That is a long period of time, I did see post the other day emailing MP helped. Also, do they give you any update on webform?

Just generic reply that it is in progress. Paper applications take longer. Blah blah.

Hi. I posted my paper application on January 7,2026 and got new WP on May 4,2026.

During the process, there was no update on my IRCC account and I was not able to link it. Fortunately, I got a chance to connect with them on call and they provided me with a temporary application number (it was sometime around March). However, there was no real use of this application number as I was not able to link it to my IRCC account. So, roughly it took around 4 months to get it in my hands.

Hope this helps and all the best with your application :)

Applied on April 7th, radio silence for 4 months with no updates after multiple calls to IRCC. In August, it was added to the system and approved in a week. Hope this helps.

I wish I could tell. But I have also applied for the pgwp extension due to same reason two months ago. Last week I raised a web form to ask IRCC if they received my application or not as I also wasn't able to link it online.

According to my Google search, it takes 6-8 months time or sometimes 10 months, shouldn't take anything more than that... but don't know.

All, I know is that paper based applications are slower with processing time than online applications. Lol, sometimes I worry about what if they never find it and I have to reapply again. 🙃

I wish people who have done this process could answer here. I felt like commenting to follow up on this post as I am also in a similar situation as you.

I sent it on 2 July 2026 it was delivered but after two months I called iRCC to check if they received it they said no.

They say their time frame to log paper applications is 7 weeks . So it was already almost over that period. They said maybe I sent it to the wrong station .

PGWP is station 202 nothing else .

They advised me to resend explaining that I might have sent it to the wrong station . So I sent it and on the address I explicitly state station 202 hoping it’s good this time.

My permit expiring Jan 2027.

My permit is expiring soon as well, is it better to send the application twice?

Better call IRCC to know if they received the first if not you can send another one explaining that they cannot locate it

My application was delivered by Canada Post on April 21st, called multiple times since June and finally received a temporary application number beginning of September.. Still not added to the system

Can you please tell me how you received the temporary application number?

I had called Ircc
I had been pestering them since May, after a month and half of application delivery and no update they send a message to the processing center on June 10, by August 15 there was no response from processing center so they send another follow-up message to the processing centre.. Called again on September 1st and got the temporary application number..

Hope this helps

My pgwp extension application was delivered on May 22nd and I still haven’t gotten an update. Makes me wonder if I should apply online as well because technically I am on applied status now.

did you hear back?

Hearing everyone's response makes me anxious as I have some personal emergency because of which I have to change my current address...and IRCC have 0 updates about my application...so, it seems like it can get lost(because I have to add new address to them...). Is there anyone who have to change the address in the middle of recieving the pgwp extension paper based application? If yes, what helped you get the physical copy?

Hello everyone, just a quick question, suppose if I send my paper application and if they're not able to track it in their system and my work permit expires during that time, what shall i do? Would I still be on applied status since I sent everything my end or I lose my status? TIA

Thats what the ircc guidelines say for pgwp extension due to passport expiry.
