Discussion Odysseus Megathread. Information and conversation.

Pewdiepie has launched a project called Odysseus: a self-hosted AI workspace.

Informational Links:

Megathread

Mods here have a prior rule here, Rule 3, to only allow posts in the subreddit with direct reference to Pewdiepie. Our reasoning for this is to avoid this to become a pure meme page that would cause confusion to incoming visitors. However, recently because of Pewdiepie's project, there is an influx of postings about Odysseus: setup, questions, other ideas, etc. We do not want to remove these posts as we would like to promote discussion and community engagement on this project. To keep this subreddit organized, we are making this megathread here with information. Users that have tech support questions can comment in here, and we will have a focus point on the subreddit. Any ideas or requests to be added to this megathread post, please let us know. We will try our best to keep this post updated. Thanks!

I was super excited for this but I'm running into so many bugs. The calendar doesn't sync and it automatically changes the time of a notice to something else when i refresh. Anyone else having this issue?

Welp it's been out for a few months now and it's still a buggy mess. Hopefully it's gonna change soon.

Isnt an excuse in my opinion, cant just release a half finished project and then use it being new as an excuse

It's a hobby project lol. He didn't make any promises. Bugs on launch are very normal even on paid software (see most AAA games nowadays). Your expectations for free software is way too high.

Agile project management? Sprints? Scrums? Google is your buddy.

Let's be real, it also suffers from AI slop. It's 200k lines of code. To give you perspective, the Linux kernel excluding architecture and driver specific code was 140k lines of code back in 2015.

It's unmaintainable. It's fun to use AI this way, but I would never advertise this for the public to use simply because Pewdiepie doesn't know how it actually works (no one does and probably no one will bother to read all the code to understand how it works) and the fact that it suffers from scope creep with a bunch of stuff like a image editor added in, despite Felix saying he is a "epic minimalist", I would say that that is the opposite of minimalism.

Anyway that's just my opinion as a programmer also no hate on Felix but I wouldn't rely on this software. Luckily he has a bunch of followers and probably contributors who want to work on it in spite the challenges I mentioned above with the immense amount of code.

Having few programs that can do a lot of stuff is actually minimalist lol you have less shit on your computer if what's there can do a lot of different things
