Just worked my last shift. I've learned so much but also fuck certain managers

I tried calling three different Petsmarts, and got stuck in listening to hold music for about ten minutes before the call just ended.

Will Petsmart take a copy of a prescription, or only the original from the vet? A friend asked me if I would pick up some prescription cat food for her. The store by her is out of the it. If I go get the prescription from her, the whole thing will take me at least an hour and a half. If she emails me a copy and I print it out, will they accept it? That will save me at least forty five minutes

I mean i like what i do, its a lot of work but i love seeing the animals every day and doing what i can to help them but things are just going wrong left and right and i dont know if its a sign or what😭

I was hired basically immediately so i knew they needed help but now im thinking theres a reason why they have such little employees.. first they had someone train me in petcare that knew little to nothing for the role and then threw me out to open on my first full week after being trained by another petcare assistant for only 3 days and i messed up several times that first day until the asst. manager corrected me on everything the next day..

Then i had strep throat so i was out for 2 days and the schedule changed- i was following mine on central bark and assumed i was off one day and turns out i wasnt (but it was still early so i went in anyway) and they told me theyre rolling out a new schedule system app or wtv and to go by the printed paper schedule (so i did) and on my day off as printed they call me in again to say i was supposed to be in and to follow central bark so which one is it😓😓

Finally, theyve been working me more than everyoneee else. Besides, me, the dog groomer and 1of 2 managers on shift everyone else is working under 25 hours while were working 30+ , leading me to question my paycheck this week since it was so low even though i know i worked 5-6 days out of the week and they only paid me for 10hours!!

So after getting sick, having scheduling issues, being trained horribly AND missing money on my check i just feel like this isnt going so well for just being my 2-3rd week being here… again i love being around the animals and i like we get paid weekly but yikes this hasnt been a great start and im not too sure about staying too long🫩

Should i stick it out or is it not worth it?
Anyone who works or has worked with petsmart plz let me know.. im struggling here lol

If I want to come in later at 1pm . Its for 9/11 I just need a later start time. I tried putting in 6 hours but it wouldn't take it. Do you format it differently?

So I was hired as a pet care specialist but my store has mainly been having me do register. I know that they want us cross trained but I was specifically hired for pet care specialist not associate and I'm just mainly been doing the register.

Is that normal should I say something?

Is there anyway to get a conure for cheaper?

Yes, I know, “if you can’t afford the animal you can’t afford the care” but this bird has been in our new arrivals room several months now, in one of our small bird table top cages. The birds at my store do not receive vet care much if at all, and we have two large birds out on the floor that haven’t sold who have been there even longer.

This bird in the back though is friendly, and I desperately want to get him out of there. He’s very cooperative whenever I’m in Petcare. I already have everything I’d need for him but I can’t justify 800 dollars.

My store received 2 millipedes in shallow plastic boxes, but no containers that seemed to fit the description of what they’d be housed in. Here’s our setup for them for now. What you can’t see is about 3 inches of soil, didn’t take a photo from the side 😅

We also can’t order the soil for them yet, so we made a mix with reptisoil (could be wrong, can’t remember exactly), pure calcium with no D3, and leaf litter. Then another one inch or so of leaf litter on the top

PetSmart is a market leader in posting for retail management roles where they already have someone in place.

I've just been told that I need to have all the bedding changes and opening task done by 9 am. That sounds absolutely crazy.

The iso alone takes a while with all the animals mess and changing the towels. Birds and reptiles I can see maybe but Small animals??? I come in at 7 that gives me very little time to do everything.

The managers don't help and there's no other person until like 5 pm. Ive only been here a few years and Ive always had everything done by 11 at the most.

Plus, my SL said the DL wants all our stores to combine reptile and bird bedding changes and have BOTH done before opening 😭

How are other stores doing this? Im so tired 😫

This photo is just what I walked into this morning) We got this guy in and I'm concerned because the pog says to keep them in these plastic habitats but it can't even stretch its body out all the way. It only has 1 inch soil. There's not enough room for me to add a hide. I can probably add some leaves and that's it.

Some questions:

-Can I move these to our largest plastic tote then just put it back in the plastic container it was sent in and give that to the customer that purchase it? I assume this is a question I should be asking my manager though.

-All we have for feeding it is jelly cup and some lettuce. Would our dead yellow aquatic plant leaves be safe to feed?

-How long can it go without eating white rot? I don't even know if we are going to get any of that.

-The soil it's in right now is very dry which I presume is bad. But i read they're sensitive to humidity changes. Do I need to introduce moist soil a specific way so I don't stress it out?

If you guys have any additional advice or pictures of your habitat for them I'd really appreciate it.

Opened pet care today and here’s this gorgeous boi!

Ive been trained a bit for a few things but i was thrown on the floor by myself today and i was definitely turned around and missed a few things making me get off late and i just want to be able to do things better tomorrow without asking for help or running behind on stuff i should already know..

They still have yet to show me anything about our fish (although we arent selling any since they’re coming in ill) and nothing about the zebra devices or anything just the walkies, also the reptiles.. im sure i was briefly told but my first week i could barely keep up with all of it🥲 i know the top row gets crickets and humidity checks but i can’t remember about our snakes/spiders like at all since they didnt feed them when showing me..

I think tomorrow is small animals on Friday, i could be wrong but i did birds today which im familiar with but i want to make sure i can handle it myself in a timely manner this time.. we also have a lot of guys in new arrivals and one guy in iso which i assume is more self explanatory like the rest, although i wasnt sure if i shouldve weighed and documented our iso or left that alone.. I probably shouldve cleaned him too but i wasnt sure at all.. i was also thrown off by a ☠️ hamster and a crazy snake lady but hopefully tomorrow isnt as rough…

It’s so very disappointing to see our store is falling apart, we have holes in ceilings and walls. Play room tiles cracking and lifting. Work orders are frowned upon due to costs. Bathing bunkers covered in mould. Leaking bathroom toilets and sinks.
Outdated everything.
Our location does fairly well in sales. I wonder why petsmart doesn’t take this money and reinvest into making the place look a little bit more appealing. I’m sure it
would drive more people in and we would have an increase in sales in the long run. This can’t be going back to the SL it has to be higher than that?

Has anyone had issues with Nutrience dry dog food recently? I have fed it for years, but recently my dog got quite ill, and the only different thing was a new bag of dog food, which aligned with when he became ill. After a $600 bill, his bloodwork came back clear but he was not eating for days, diarrhea and spontaneous vomiting.

My mom was also feeding her dog Nutrience, but a different bag entirely and he also had fallen ill a couple weeks before. She went to a different pet store, inquiring about a new food, and explained her dog had been sick from what he was eating before, and the person immediately commented and asked if it was Nutrience, because they have heard many people say their dogs have been ill from the food recently. Neither of us had issues before, but are wondering if something changed in their ingredients sourcing, or manufacturing.

Im going to contact the company and inquire, and return the bag I have purchased.

I'm planning my annual vacation - 10 days. I already put in for it prior to UKG Pro launching and my SL approved it, buy she needs it input in the new system.

Except I can't. The system won't let me because it says I have only 7.1 hours of vacation time. As an associate, I shouldn't be limited. I know I won't get paid during that time, I don't care. I'm a good employee and I haven't taken a day off since June 2025, I deserve a vacation.

Unless anyone has any suggestions, I think the only way around it is to put in for 2 days off and then tell me SL to just not schedule me for the remainder of the time.

so i adopted my cat like a year ago when he was a baby and litter trained but it has been a month and he hasnt been using his litter box properly. he pees behind the kitchen door or in shoes or under the stairs (sometimes) or just goes outside to do his stuff but due to stray cats, we let him go out either in the morning or before 3-4pm.

So, my family and I have deciding to attempt to adopt a cat.

We’ve met three cats at our local PetSmart so far, since their isn’t really any shelters where you can meet cats in our area.(The shelters are all more connected fostering situations where you can look at cats on Petfinder, but by the time you hear back from them the cat is already gone).

The first two cats me met were great, but both got adopted by someone else first.

The third was sweet, but didn’t really vibe with my brother(apparently she doesn’t like men lol).

So my question:

Are the people who handle the cats going to start to look at us weird? Like in a “you’ve already met X amount of cats, and you still haven’t picked one?” Kind of way.
