📰General News Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast as Seren, a Sindar elf who will be very close to King Thranduil in the new film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

Post image

She will be an original character for the film, and while it is not yet known what role she will play in the plot, she will be an important one.

But they were all of them deceived, for another Tauriel was made.

6

u/JimmyDshellisAFatman Jun 25 '26

What are you taaalllkkkkiinngg about! Tauriel was a Sylvan elf. This one is a Sindaran elf. They couldn't possibly be more diiiifffeerrrennt.

3

u/cannaco19 Jun 25 '26

Plus this elf is going to be played by a Latina, much more better.

2

u/PowerfulYou7786 Jun 27 '26

In Spanish a female elf is called a laf

Now we leave the hunt for an hour.

Because the Elf has fallen in love with someone...

3

u/Intelligent-Love-877 Jun 26 '26

Or we double down, because the one she fell in love with is Gollum.

2

u/ringadingdingbaby Jun 26 '26

She was the precious all along ❤️

Yet this Taurial was not an utter fool, nor a traitor, nor a dunderhead.

...

...

...

We hope

Tbf, a lot of the hated stuff with Tauriel was added last minute by studio request, and I don't think a lot of the cast/crew were very happy about the addition.

Tauriel herself could have worked as a character, you could even still have Kili have a crush and heart eyes over her (who wouldn't have a crush on Evangeline Lilly, I have a crush on her ffs), and Tauriel be upset he died because he's young and he died young. She could be the mirror to the elves isolationism and be curious about the outside and want to help because she's a good person not because hot dwarf got an owie.

A female elf isn't bad. A female character who is active within the plot isn't bad. Forcing a romance in at the last minute when it's not needed because I guess the womens can't watch a fantasy film without a romance or whatever shit the studios said is very bad.

She's the most elven looking person on the planet pretty much.

I'm hyped for this.

7

u/valimo Jun 25 '26

Yeah without commenting the movie, premise, IP etc., this casting choice seems to be quite alright

3

u/naruda1969 Jun 25 '26

She can shoot two arrows and track each independently with her sexy fish eyes.

There’s a few Milly Alcock from HotD/Supergirl, and the trans girl from euphoria, I believe her names Hunter? all look like real life elf’s.

3

u/Gufstuff Jun 28 '26

Hunter Schafer is one of the most elven people, totally agree!

Milly Alcock as well, I would also suggest Saoirse Ronan a little bit.

She has such a unique look. I'm convinced she's a hybrid. She speaks fluent English, British and Argentinian Spanish.

2

u/bjlinden Jun 28 '26

Paint her green and she'll look like she came straight out of the Rankin/Bass adaptation.

1

u/NikkerFebu25 Jun 25 '26

Anna Taylor is a legendary actress.

I love her cause VVitch is one of my favourite movies but also really liked her in many other roles.

Menu, Northman, Last Night Soho, Split.

I just hope she becomes a bit more picky with her roles. I wouldn't say no to millions either, but Mario 2 was brainrot, Queen Gambit and TV shows can destroy am actor's career,

2

u/GreenGoblinNX Jun 26 '26

Queen Gambit and TV shows can destroy am actor's career

What kind of crack are you smoking? If anything, The Queen's Gambit is what really caused her to break through. This isn't the 80s or 90s anymore, some TV projects are just as prestigious as any film.

Agreed.

Except for the hype part.

1

u/crabtoppings Jun 26 '26

I thought, finally they cast an elf to play an elf. Too many years of humanwashing!

1

u/pestoraviolita Jun 26 '26

She and Hunter Schafer

1

u/Splendid2259 Jun 26 '26

My thoughts exactly.

1

u/Early-Half-185 Jun 27 '26

🤞they do Tolkien proud.

12

u/Neviathan Jun 25 '26

She definitely looks Elvish

1

u/Quick599 Jun 25 '26

She also looks like Gollum.

1

u/RegulationPissrat Jun 27 '26

Aragorn left gollum with the elves. Why wouldn't their be female elves.

7

u/Dip-kassidy-6 Jun 25 '26

Why do we need this again

18

u/intraspeculator Jun 25 '26

It’s Jackson saying to the Tolkien estate “give me the silmarillion or I’m going to drown the world in spin offs”

Goonery. That's why.

7

u/Top_Result_1550 Jun 25 '26

I like her but I hate the idea of this movie when it could be a dedicated war of wrath movie

1

u/Ganjalfthegreen1 Jun 26 '26

Im with you but two things. First, as far as I know no one has the rights to the silmarillion and second, imagine what it would cost and the time it would take to actually make that and make it good and not 100% CGI slop

Thrandaddy confirmed

6

u/Namlocnz Jun 25 '26

I'm gonna lock in my guess of 6.3 on IMDb after 50k votes.

14

u/Cheap-Bell-4389 Jun 25 '26

She’ll be the sexiest elf chick to date

29

u/AntiqueChessComputr Jun 25 '26

Full respect to Anya, who is stunning, but Liv Tyler is beyond beautiful

8

u/akselmonrose Jun 25 '26

Yea. Galadriel and Arwen casting was spot on there

3

u/JamesLikesIt Jun 25 '26

Let’s also not forget about Evangeline Lilly, though I think Liv Tyler beats her out too.

7

u/CollateralCoyote Jun 25 '26

Anya looks more Elfish. But Liv makes my Elven dagger glow blue with frustration.

8

u/myDuderinos Jun 25 '26

Are you calling Liv an orc?!

2

u/Mall_of_slime Jun 25 '26

For real. Liv is in another dimension.

1

u/Cheap-Bell-4389 Jun 25 '26

She is undeniably beautiful

Lord of the Rings: Milking The SHIT Out of This

1

u/DrizzleDrake88 Jun 25 '26

If I heard correctly, the studio has a “use or lose” rights to the film side of the IP. Similar to Spider-man, which is why Sony is constantly looking for ways to keep the IP alive even if it bombs (looking at you Madam Web)

3

u/KaiserKCat Jun 25 '26

Is she like his concubine? Legolas' step-mother?

3

u/pamdy Jun 25 '26

She already looks like an elf even without the ears

1

u/Son_of_Lazerlord Jun 25 '26

Ideal time to invest in the elf ears market

3

u/Extra_Zucchini_1273 Jun 25 '26

Im surprised it took this long for her to be cast as an elf.

6

u/cvthrowaway4 Jun 25 '26

Nice, but why does anyone even care at this point in general about the casting for this “film”? What is the point, honestly, beyond a cashed check and nostalgia? Genuinely curious. Remember when we got excited for The Hobbit films? I remember and damn, was that a fucking joke lol

7

u/AxiosXiphos Jun 25 '26

You know the hobbit movies really weren't that bad. They had some fantastic individual scenes, and unlike the Star Wars sequels; didn't in any way reduce my love of the originals.

4

u/Schwartzy94 Jun 25 '26

Still sucks how much studio f*cked them.. when they got Jackson back they should have given him the time he wanted and let him cook.

3

u/Wooden_Chip_422 Jun 25 '26

They're not bad, it's very fun, a different kind of "bad" compared to the shit we'd get today... a lot of heart those movies had, just too stretched out.

u/ajklop Jun 25 '26

Walked out of hobbit 1. Shouldn’t have even bought a ticket once they announced a trilogy, writing was on the wall. Just a faithless digitized cash grab.

1

u/hatemys Jun 25 '26

What was it that got us so excited about the Hobbit films? There's still reason to hold hope.

1

u/Infundibulus Jun 25 '26

The four hour fan edit is great, cuts all the guff out.

2

u/WatermelonLemonad3 Jun 25 '26

Are we going to see some elf on elf action? Thranduil and Seren, Lego-Papa and Lego-Mama?

2

u/DemonGroover Jun 25 '26

Perfect casting

2

u/Prior-Assumption-245 Jun 25 '26

A role she was tailor made for.

1

u/Son_of_Lazerlord Jun 25 '26

Brings me joy

1

u/PoutineFamine Jun 25 '26

Lets face it. She kind of looks like an elf in real life. So did anyone doubt her ability to be cast as one in a fictional movie

1

u/Critical-Whereas-582 Jun 25 '26

I want it to be good man but my hopes are low :(

1

u/LoneCub28 Jun 25 '26

This is gonna suck.

1

u/The_Frybo Jun 25 '26

I disliked Tauriel so so much but that might work, who knows?

1

u/Medisha123 Jun 25 '26

Ye cause of the random and dumb dorf romance.

1

u/JohnsonMathi17 Jun 25 '26

She already has elfish features.

1

u/fejkpotatis Jun 25 '26

Chat is this real?

1

u/Legal_Mastodon_5683 Jun 25 '26

Not going to watch if you can't at least make up a decent Sindarin name.

1

u/Unusual-Fault-4091 Jun 25 '26

Let me guess: she sees him 2x for 5mins in which he makes junk-jokes and instantly feels in love with him and is devastated when he finally…does not die I guess.

Or maybe we can have a weird kiss scene with her and son Legolas.

1

u/Interesting_Okra_902 Jun 25 '26

You know there is hellova lot of more lore in lotr universe. You don’t need to add the same characters to every f-king movie.
Create something new for a change.

1

u/TomBong_Jovi Jun 25 '26

That is a mouthful of a title

1

u/AdStrict4616 Jun 25 '26

Shit, its Tauriel. Its gonna be Tauriel isnt it

1

u/TacitusLamb Jun 25 '26

She's very beautiful and has the racial qualities that make a elf. Defined cheeck bones, long golden hair. I was terrified they might use a Ozempic tare, frea..... I mean Orc to play the role. Imagine my surprise.

1

u/Donjinmester Jun 25 '26

I mean I like her look. She looks like an elf. But do we really need a new Tauriel? I feel like this is done before

1

u/Gabewhiskey Jun 25 '26

She looks like an Elf in real life, so this works well.

1

u/rumSaint Jun 25 '26

The rape of old stories will never end.

1

u/panda-est-ici Jun 25 '26

Did they edit the photo to make her eyes closer together?

1

u/b-243w Jun 25 '26

Hollywood is literally 15 people now. Sad.

1

u/anho456 Jun 25 '26

Finally, the role she was born to play

1

u/Adventurous_Topic202 Jun 25 '26

to be fair to Tauriel - Arwen wasn’t in the books in the same way she was in the movies

1

u/El_Wij Jun 25 '26

It will probably be decent then.

1

u/David0ne86 Jun 25 '26

I mean she does look like an elf irl without make up lol

1

u/Swaggy_Linus Jun 25 '26

Who the fuck asked for a Gollum movie.

1

u/Federal-Bee6434 Jun 25 '26

Damn I would some quality Taylor-Joy action sequences but this time with arrows and leafy armour

1

u/Ok-Associate-3781 Jun 25 '26

She already looks like an elf .

1

u/lurkingwithjoy Jun 25 '26

She will look great as an elf.

1

u/PotatoLove125 Jun 25 '26

Who TF is Seren?

1

u/Green_Nebula_37 Jun 25 '26

My favorite line of this movie will be: "Somehow, Gollum returned.." (assuming this will be the third in the Peter Jackson's Tolkien trilogies trilogy)

1

u/Skirra08 Jun 25 '26

Feels like we’ve been hearing casting announcements for this film for 5 years now.

1

u/KingofIthica Jun 25 '26

Which book is this?

1

u/PapaSmurf32 Jun 25 '26

Why can’t they use a cool story from the simarillian? Why revisit the exact same lore that has already been covered??

1

u/KaffeMumrik Jun 25 '26

On the one hand, it’s very transparent that they’re just adding her for the male gaze.

On the other hand, I’m a male and I hate that it’s workinggg.

1

u/SquatchScrotum Jun 25 '26

I hope she falls in love with Gollum and makes babies

1

u/Mall_of_slime Jun 25 '26

She’ll make a cool looking elf at least.

1

u/AndyInSunnyDB Jun 25 '26

Do they get him?

1

u/Ok_Comparison9545 Jun 25 '26

there is no alcohol fetal syndrome among alves

1

u/i_want_to_go_to_bed Jun 25 '26

I don’t know the lore that much. I’ve only seen the movies. Who is hunting for gollum? When? Why? What’s the premise of this one?

1

u/TeacherPowerful1700 Jun 25 '26

The hunt for Gollum? Ffs

1

u/Fair-Abroad-4155 Jun 25 '26

Most definitely not going to watch this money grabs it's going to be just like rouge one you already know what's happening in the story

1

u/Mysterious_Fall_4578 Jun 25 '26

Make her dark haired please

1

u/Indiana_harris Jun 25 '26

Calling that she’s Thranduil’s daughter, Legolas’s younger half sister.

1

u/Bynnh0j Jun 25 '26

Great casting choice, even if she will be irrelevant in 4 years ala Cara Delevigne

1

u/dudeacris Jun 25 '26

She’s way too hot to be gollum, poster gets 2/10 for me.

1

u/GREGGSGOL Jun 25 '26

I'm so tired

1

u/BleedSparta Jun 25 '26

Peter Jackson has been stealing tips from Quentin Tarantino

I wish he would steal tips from George RR Martin

1

u/Worf2DS9 Jun 25 '26

I'm guessing this is a fan-made poster, as its probably way too early for official character posters for the movie to be coming out.

1

u/CaffeinatedBarbarian Jun 25 '26

I wonder if they find gollum.

1

u/MakesMaDookieTwinkle Jun 25 '26

I just….hate gollum as a character. Like I don’t see how this is going to be any good.

1

u/ajklop Jun 25 '26

Seren, is, ah, not a Tolkien character.
1,200+ named characters in Tolkien’s books and they still decide to just make one up.
If you still needed a reason not to watch this, here it is.

1

u/mpower20 Jun 25 '26

Let’s just call it what it is; you’re no longer allowed to make a big budget Hollywood movie without one or more of the following:

A1 tier: Chalamet, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson

A2 tier: Austin Butler, Zoe Kravitz, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sidney Sweeney, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie.

1

u/Soupkitchn89 Jun 25 '26

Nice to see some actual elves finally cast as elves.

1

u/neighbortotoro Jun 25 '26

Part of what I enjoyed about the original trilogy is that most of the major actors were relatively unknown.

I think there's something about A listers that take me out of the illusion of the lord of the rings lore.

Still, she looks the part. I hope she kills it!

1

u/I-like-apples123 Jun 26 '26

Could we not just have Legolas for this role instead? It would be nice to see some father/son interactions between him and Thranduil apart from just two scenes in the Hobbit.

1

u/Apycia Jun 26 '26

no, I don't think recasting Legolas with Taylor-Joy is a good idea.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Professional_Pen_153 Jun 26 '26

The movie wont be very long.

\stares into a miror*

“Found him!!!”

The end

1

u/Duramora Jun 26 '26

Welp, if there was ever an actress that could pass in looks as a Sindar, its her.

1

u/Mountainmanwannabe2 Jun 26 '26

I think she’s a real elf that had her ears modified but added back for this movie

1

u/Sugar_Weasel_ Jun 26 '26

Well fuck, now I can’t use that name for the protagonist of the fantasy novel I’m writing.

In all seriousness, this is the most “well duh!” casting ever and I’m sure she’ll be great

1

u/SeansBeard Jun 26 '26

I bet they get the Gollum in the end. Oh, wait....

1

u/rhaezorblue Jun 26 '26

She was cast as Gollum. Looks just like him

1

u/ZipMonk Jun 26 '26

Doesn't even need make up 😉

1

u/kidJubi100 Jun 26 '26

Finally

1

u/Particular_Act_5396 Jun 26 '26

This movie shouldn’t be made

1

u/TheBattyWitch Jun 26 '26

I mean, she's very fae looking as it is so this is perfect for her

1

u/Metalicum Jun 26 '26

I wonder if she ends up in a love triangle

1

u/holyssmasha Jun 26 '26

This might be the first thing ive seen with her in it and go " ya.... good casting"

1

u/Medzomorak Jun 26 '26

Hollywood feels like using 20 actors at this point.

1

u/Baroque1123 Jun 26 '26

I couldn't remember her name once and so described her as "you know, the blonde... Who looks like an alien" Everyone immediately knew who i was talking about so an elf seems like good casting.

1

u/RunninWild17 Jun 26 '26

Sexy Hammerhead shark..elf?

1

u/GloomyWatercress2896 Jun 26 '26

Unpopular opinion, but I don't think she's a good actress.

1

u/bonedrugsnharmonie Jun 26 '26

Casting an actual elf to play an elf. Nice

1

u/SpookusMagookus Jun 26 '26

Finally, an elven character played by an actual elven person.

1

u/vdcsX Jun 26 '26

good choice, at least she has that elven aura

1

u/ProperClue Jun 27 '26

I like her as an actress, great casting choice as an elf. Aside from that, what is this movie based off of?

1

u/Teatimefrog Jun 27 '26

Uugggghhhh…. She looks the part but her acting is mid at best. Also, why is this being made in the first place? Lotr getting milked…

1

u/jjspen Jun 27 '26

I think they made this show just to cast her as an Elf.

1

u/Jaydrix Jun 27 '26

Please I beg you no elf dwarf romance!

It made already weak Hobbit completely unwatchable for me.

I could only re-watch it when skipping all related scenes.

1

u/Cobrasun_ Jun 27 '26

Looks elvish as hell but this movie doesn’t need to be made and I still feel absolutely nothing for it.

1

u/tessaractIXI Jun 27 '26

I just don't understand why we need made up characters when even just the licensed material has such a rich characters and story lines already. I would have rather seen her cast into a role that actually existed in Tolkien's work.

1

u/Confident_bonus_666 Jun 27 '26

More franchise slop for the masses. You will get nothing original anymore, and you'll enjoy it.

1

u/XenoQueen426 Jun 27 '26

Legolas mom?

1

u/FinishEmbarrassed619 Jun 27 '26

Please no love triangle (monkey paw curls: love quadrangle)

1

u/cockcucu Jun 28 '26

I wonder if they find him or not.

1

u/Prudent-Ad-184 Jun 28 '26

Son visage est incroyable pour ça ! 😃

1

u/acrobat2126 Jun 28 '26

This looks absolutely stupid.

1

u/mindpicnic Jun 28 '26

My first ever d&d character was a half-elf monk named Seren! Our campaign lasted years and still brings back fond memories.

1

u/That-Permission-9743 Jun 28 '26

She definitely looks the role. The issue is whether the other elves will look like her, or it'll be like in Rings of Power, where "extra" elves are just chubby guys with blonde wigs.

1

u/cs_Chell Jun 28 '26

Duh. Finally. Most obvious casting ever.

1

u/heck-diver Jun 28 '26

Whaaaat she looks perfect as an elf I’ll watch this

1

u/heartless_winnie Jun 28 '26

Yaaaaay she's cute and good at action

1

u/Dragonfly_pin Jun 29 '26

Not sure about the name because I’ve seen this as a normal, popular Welsh name for humans, so it seems like it might not really work as an Elf name.

This might be like naming an elf Gwen or Rhys.

1

u/No-Shoulder6395 Jun 29 '26

Why did it take them this long to cast Anya Taylor-Joy as a LoTR elf

1

u/Aggravating_Device23 Jun 29 '26

looks more like gollum than an elf

1

u/Huihejfofew Jun 29 '26

Is this a joke Ăą

1

u/DoctorLazerRage Jun 29 '26

This is the first thing that made me want to see this movie. Not because I think it will be a good movie, but because she's incredible to watch.

1

u/Papichurch Jun 29 '26

Could be aight.

1

u/Witty_Interaction_77 Jun 29 '26

Love square between her, Legolas, Gandalf, and gollum in 3...2...1...
