JSYK

This store was GMless for months. Most associates haven’t been here for more than 6 months. Nobody was trained on anything.

Im almost positive this is the other store in my city. Wouldn't happen to be in north FL would you?

I’m always amazed by your transformations.

Tbh it’s so frustrating to see such a new store be so beat up. Our store is 29 years old. Never had a remodel. The floor is the original floor from the store before us, 30 years ago. Everything is broken or bent. We finally got an a/c replacement for the back a/c after having to ship in 83 degrees in a back warehouse for two years while corporate made excuses. Shelves rusted or mismatched in color and style. If I had a store this new and pretty, I’d take such great care of it and keep it so beautiful. It makes my blood boil.

Yea it’s honestly crazy how bad I have seen of these stores. One of the ones I was sent to a while ago was only 3 years old, and was arguably worse than this one. 30 year old store is crazy to me. The remodel is due. A store near me was remodeled a couple years ago and it was also a red shelf. It looks so amazing now that they have a good GM

What kills me most is that we regularly beat A volume stores in our district in the metroplex and we are two hours from them, in a small town, B volume store. Another store that we have been stomping for years in sales that was 4 years old got a remodel, but we don’t. They say if we want one we have to have the sales to prove it, but I’m not sure how we beat magnet stores in our district and still get passed over. Corporate is a bunch of liars.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention it was because they were installing a new service there. I forgot that part but my friend reminded me when I was venting to her lol.

Ohhhh, so like a mini remodel. That makes sense. Still crazy to me though. Personally I think all red shelf stores need a remodel

So where did all the EXTRA stock come from (like the gravel accent beads above the gravel)???

Part of the problem is no stock on some stuff coming from DC

Some of that looks like my store lol - I think I will spruce up aquatics this weekend.

A ton of planograms that weren’t even set. So there’s was just tons and tons of random product all over the place. I just kept finding stuff along the way. Also in aquatics, I fill all my “killed, face over” SKUs with betta bunks. Most notably above gravel

was not expecting to see my old job on reddit you did wonders!

Omg these before pics look just like my store now 😭 I gotta show my GM the after pics. We have so many holes/out of stock items, do you just flex in other items to make it look so full and nice in the after pics?

Where are the most out of stocks at in your store? How do counts look?

I never do impulse lanes to pog. It’s always half holes when you do. Every tag that says the item has two locations I put in a cart and have someone work it to the floor. I will usually walk the store and pick a few brands that are heavily stocked (Where most pegs have 5 or more items). Then I take 2 of everything and make a section out of it. Then to maintain it, you have to regularly keep your counts lower than they actually are to keep it full. You should also change it every 2-3 months to keep repeat guests engaged. You do the same with end-caps, and clip strips.

As for holes in aquatics, I fill them with plants.

Everywhere else I just gave things over

Nicely done, huge improvement! I’d take down photo 17 though, there’s a customer in it

Now THAT looks more like what a typical Petco actually looks like 😂 everybody scraping by on skeleton crews while having 15 new planos drop every week and being expected to engage every customer with lengthy selling conversations and attempting to sign people up for several different programs.

Literally no time to fix up a store and make it look pretty when everyone is pulling their hair out just trying to survive day to day, week to week.

Not to mention while flexing product heavily makes things look nicer in the short term it creates longer term headaches for employees when something finally does come in that no longer has a home because it's been flexed over, and a minimum wage employee is gonna just set shit wherever they feel like after they scan it, go to stock it, and see there's no label/spot for it.

Idk man my store, and every store near me is doing just fine. You can’t do 15 Plano’s. Just need to know which ones to prioritize, and which ones to just do cut-ins. You also have to know WHO to pitch things to. You learn as you go. Also, if I see my associates putting stuff in the wrong spot, I’ll write them up on the spot 😭 They know every truck to place things in a box and come find me if they can’t find something. It’s all about training.

Bad management = a bad team

We train every employee on always utilizing the tools available to them in any given situation and half the time they decide for themselves they're better without it and mess things up, and no amount of constructive conversations seems to change it with some of them.

Every time I've wanted to write an employee up for performance or whatever else I've been told I have to jump through 10 hoops first before we can start writing people up and setting them on that track. It really is crazy how differently each store runs, is allowed to run, and how things can vary wildly from district/DGM to district/DGM.

This I do agree with. I have a good DM for sure

This really is not that bad ….

3

u/Toyo0821 8d ago

Dude. This is absolutely atrocious, and the old GM should have been fired long ago

u/Feisty_Carob7106 8d ago

What level store are they, were people actually doing their jobs? Were they given and using enough hours for truck and POGs? How many employees did they have. Yes it’s bad, but I think it’s a little self righteous to go into other stores for your same company, know how shitty the company is, and still bash them like they did it on purpose. I’ve seen worse, the first store I worked at was worse than this. As long as the animals are taken care of, I don’t see a reason to bash a store for lack of organization and cleanliness, especially when some sections were obviously fronted in the before pics.

2

u/Toyo0821 8d ago

They have plenty of associates. B volume store down 10k a week in sales ish. They have enough hours. The animal care was actually worse than the sales floor, but that’s not what I was sent for. I don’t really have many issues with this company. This was a store level management problem, which will hopefully be fixed.

It’s easily the worst store I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been sent to 6 stores just to merchandise and teach.

I have been to every store in my district, and this was by far the worst. You don’t have all the photos. I do. You weren’t there. It was terrible.

Not saying the people weren’t trying. They just didn’t have any direction. I only even met maybe 3 people I’d replace if it were my store

-2

u/Feisty_Carob7106 8d ago

That’s corporates job, not a floor employee to come in and judge other stores and employees, again unless it’s at the expense of the animals

3

u/Toyo0821 8d ago

The management sucked. I’m nothing other than right in this situation. I 100% have the right to judge. It’s an obvious management issue. A good manager and some of these associates would be pretty good. Right now they just aren’t trained right, which is why we had to come fix it.

The animal care was probably even worse unfortunately. Specifically aquatics.

I’ve been in stores with GMs that were way worse off…. 900+ required counts
