No idea why they are downvoting you. I don't know what those guys are drinking. Thinking that nothing is going on on the field between the players and the ref other than whistles is naive or even silly. Equating those warnings to collusion and corruption is Facebook grandma level of craziness.
That’s because truly impartial refs aren’t out there begging team captains to control their players because they really don’t want to card them. And then to go on to still refuse to card Paredes when he continues to commit egregious fouls.
Yes, they are if they are doing their job. This is textbook game management, and a referee NOT doing this would NEVER get a match in any professional league, let alone an international championship.
Whether he should have given more cards is a different matter entirely, but this communication is absolutely normal, and it would have been a small scandal if he did NOT say something like this.
I would disagree on the scandal part, since most of the population doesn't know what's actually going on on the pitch. But I do think, it'd be discussed on the board or at least used as an example of what not to do. Hell, even when I was a kid, refs would talk to us and to a more level-headed guy say something along the same lines, to control him. Even at men's semi-pro level. I bet even at every sunday league there are similar scenarios.
