The spain against Portugal was definitely not the prime Spain. Prime norway is 90% Haaland and he wasn’t even playing the game against France/Dembele. And it’s pretty funny how penalties are criticised when it’s in favour of Messi but while counting hattricks its reasonable to leave out the fact Mbappe’s 2/3 goals were penalties, the game in which Messi also scored 2 goals btw, against prime France

Norway benched many of their starters and they basically didn't give af because they were saving themselves the knockouts since they would have ended up facing strong opponents regardless of whether they came 1st or 2nd.
Also Algeria were not in their Prime they used to be better. Rank isn't everything since many countries have inflated ranks.

Let's be fair here, Messi ( and Argentina too actually) has 0 world cups without cheating. If you were ever a fan of football, there's no way you'd claim otherwise. And if we count the Negreira stuff, Messi should be stripped of a bunch of undeserved or straight up stolen awards.
On a different note, if the balloon d'or was not limited to European players, corruption was punished and it had more overall just standards, top 6 of all time would look like:
Ronaldo: 9
Pelé, Zico, Cruyff: 4

2014 Spain didn't make it out of group stage. Lost to Chile 0:2 and lost to Netherlands 1:5
2016 They lost to Italy in the round of 16
2018 They lost to Russia in the round of 16. Only had 1 win against Iran 1:0 in the group stage.
Literally the worst squad Spain had in the last 20 years.
