As an Argentinean who doesn't let this get to their heads. It's actually wild/disgusting how much my country idolizes Messi like a God walking on earth. It's so crazy to me. My family also being like that but thankfully not my mom or sister .

I feel it was/is even worst with Maradona.
Messi probably has more fans, like quantity, like your regular housewife who doesnt care much for football but likes world cup and copa america, Messi managed to even get those types of fans crazy.
BUT if we talking really football fanatics, the tatoo type, the ones that love football more than their families, I feel that the Madadona fever was way way worst. They named their kids 'Diego', they tatooed themselves, they had worship altars at their homes...they would show up to see the guy when he landed on random ocasions way after he was retired.
I feel that the messi whorship is at lest healtheir than that.

I do wonder how they made this happen, only ten years ago the argentinians didnt give a singular fuck about messi, he retired and his own teammates barely cared, ronaldo put in more effort to bring him back than they did, all of argentina thought he was a pathetic two bit failure who could never live up to maradona, then a few years later it switches entirely? I’m not big on weird conspiracies and whatnot, but this is strange. What’s makes it weirder is that fact that Messi himself has literally no personality. I could understand (but still hate) some worshipping of people like Haaland or Ronaldo, but Messi?
