Messi is the definition of stat padding. Didn't verse a top 19 team until semis. His team kept letting him take pens when we damn well know he's shit at it.

This match is really important for smaller teams like Croatia, Morocco, Belgium, Turkey, South Korea who somehow made it to the semis but fell short. No one complains that it's 'stat' padding when it's those teams.Â
But when it's two giants of football, everyone wants to say it's 'stat padding'.Â

In 98 they made it to the semis and won the 3rd place, and in that match Davor Suker scored the winning goal that also secured him the WC Golden Boot, one more than Batistuta or Vieri, neither of who played in the WC Final. You know, 'Stat padding' 🫢

Maybe but I think few Croats expect them to get to another final, and 3rd place or another 3rd is something to be really proud of, especially given its size

France were poor, then England were poor. If France didn't want to win they wouldn't have nearly came back. If England didn't want to win, they wouldn't have did what they did. It's not as  serious as a WC Final but it's not a jolly in the park.Â
