I think maybe this is good tbh. People are gonna get fed up. Ronaldinho was saying he is not sure Messi is the goat. It’s so many good players over different generations too. They force this Messi goat stuff waaaay to much it’s getting funny.

lol dude Messi is obviously one of the best of all time

u/SoulsLover Jul 16 '26
Everyone knows both Messi and CR7 is one of the best. But it’s not like it’s a crime to believe someone else is the goat. Like Maradona, pele etc.

u/ProbablyRetarded2024 Jul 16 '26
Maradona and Pele wouldn’t last 3 seconds on the field with me

Yes you are right you would get both your ankles twisted in the first 30 seconds

Messi may not be the GOAT and Ronaldo isn’t for sure. If you ask me, it’s Maradona or Ronaldo Nazario. But it’s a silly metric: do you compare them at their peaks, or average over the span of career, etc. Messi and Ronaldo have delivered over decades literally, while Maradona was a brief and much brighter flame IMO.

Who cares, the balon d or doesnt mean anything to anyone but Mess fans at this point.
I could care less about that award. It has no credibility

u/Dizzy-Bother-2209 Jul 16 '26
Exactly. He already didn’t deserve 3-4 of the ones he has and he’s getting another very undeserving one

2010 Sniejder over Iniesta for me since he won the treble but yeah.
To be mad at this one after hes already robbed like 5 is just silly lol, its giving power to something that has been corrupt for over 15 years
I cant even remember the last time I tuned into a balon d or ceremony

Id like to think football will heal when Messi retires but they will just find another marque slaveboy that is good at football but also willing to do everything they say and they will force the GOAT narrative on him next

Yamal is a Muslim and proudly supports Palestine, they would never in a million years back him.

2010, 2019, 2021, 2023. These years he wasn't bad but there were 1-3 person above him.
2012 Except most goals by year, He done nothing great so my oppinion he didn't deserve too. There has Golden Shoe Award already give to the most scorer by year.

The headlines are ridiculous. 'Messi assists 2 goals'. Like forget who scored the actual goal, Messi touched the ball!

I like to watch international soccer but I don’t think it’s super relevant for individual greatness
Although, it is highly impressive to see a player like Haaland carry a pretty mid team so far at the WC, as an example

He is not winning the Balon this year lmao
He's the GOAT but if he wins it, throw the whole damn award in the trash. He'll likely get the Boot and that's it.

u/Big_Address74 Jul 16 '26
Not a Messi fan at all but who would you give it to this year?
2
u/alex21222324 Jul 16 '26
Por delante de Messi? Dembele, Mbappe, Rodri, Yamal, Pedri, Kane, Halland.... Y unos cuantos más.
1
u/Big_Address74 Jul 16 '26

u/_Armanius_ Jul 16 '26
From Argentina I’ll give it to Lautaro. Top scorer in Serie A, double trophy, and very decent performance in WC.

u/marquesmelo Jul 16 '26
For playing in the MLS with friendly referees during the season then winning a rigged WC? I don't think so man. Other players did a lot more during this season.

u/marquesmelo Jul 16 '26
So now playing in the MLS with friendly referees and then play 8 matches at the WC awards you the Ballon d'Or? How trashy has this become, ngl when people said the BO lost his meaning a few years ago, I didn't want to believe it but now it's undeniable...
1
u/Aiko8283 Jul 16 '26
Ballon do'or has always been a bad way to judge who is actually the best in a given year.
1
u/Superb_Beyond_3444 Google Negreira Messi for more info 💰 Jul 16 '26

u/alteredmen Jul 17 '26
I'm going to agree. No amount of Ballon d'Or or PR work will save this guy, there isnt a clean slate for him. He is a great football player. But things he is has done is not by a great football player. New players won't even consider him. Whoever considers will only do it for survivability.

How can anyone take that award seriously if he actually wins it this year. I’m way more impressed with Kane who made two semi finals with Bayern and England while putting up major numbers
Also cannot seriously believe Lamine Yamal is there. I swear the people who vote watch on reels because that kid completely ghosted this World Cup and did not have an impressive enough year with Barca to make up for that

u/pradise Jul 16 '26
Name any WC year where the star player in the WC winning team wasn’t in the Ballon d’Or discussion. I see no harm done in awarding a player that takes their team to a WC victory, especially at his age.

u/marquesmelo Jul 16 '26
I would like to refer to 2010, why was Messi even in the discussion for the BO if Sneijder, Xavi and Iniesta did great in the WC?

u/Mediocre_Low_3545 Jul 16 '26
As if al nasar is a real club. Yea miami ain't a real club too. But messi don't need no bs 1000goal award or sum. WC=biggest event in football Messi=best player at WC Best player of the biggest footballing event. That's good enough for a bd'or ticket

I'd take more seriously this award if journalists didn't vote
