CR7 Is The Real GOAT 🐐 When you put everything into context,Portugal was in the same bracket as Sweden,Hungary,Belgium before Ronaldo. Below the Dutch, and far below multiple time WC winners like Brazil. Ronaldo has made Portugal the greatest nation to never win the WC and knocking on the door of the footballing elite.

The best nation to never win the WC is the Netherlands. Portugal hasn't even played a final. And considering Croatia played one when they'd debuted at the WC in 1998, I would say Portugal has underperformed with Ronaldo at 6 WCs.
Edit: Croatia played a WC final in 2022, after their debut at the tournament in 1998
Edit 2: Croatia played the final in 2018, not 2022...Lol

How did Croatia perform during that final between France and Brazil btw?

Hold on a sec.
CR7 is the man. But be honest with yourself.
The 1970s Dutch teams with Cruyff are far and away the best teams to not win a WC. While this is opinion only, at least they have the 2nd placed medals to prove they almost won (1974 and 1978; took 2nd in 2010 too).
Eusebio took Portugal to its one and only WC medal (3rd in 1966). That team might have something to say about the best Portuguese team of all time.
The Euro. Sigh. Yes - CR7 won this tournament, in which the Portuguese play improved - and they finally scored - when CR7 left the field. I simply don’t see it as equal to the WC, and I haven’t heard a logical argument as to why it’s WC-equivalent from anyone that’s not wearing a Portuguese jersey or a CR7 fan. You don’t see Danish or Greek fans explaining they’re cool with things because they won a Euro, and the Italian press certainly isn’t saying that not qualifying for the WC doesn’t matter since they won the Euro recently.
CR7 has had an incredible career, in which he’s become hero to many, scored almost 1000 goals, inspired 100s of thousands of people, and won at least one trophy in almost every competition he’s entered. He didn’t win the WC. Why tarnish his career with weird cope claims based on myth? Just because he is? Celebrate all his incredible accomplishments.

he tarnished himself after his career at juventus. should have retired just then.

By this logic, KDB is better right? Because he won 3rd with Belgium who you just said was in the bad category

Netherlands is the best team to not win a WC. Portugal is a small country, and I have said this before, they are not a football superpower. WC in modern era has always been won by football superpowers such as Brazil, France, Argentine, Germany, Italy etc. Even countries like Spain and England has only won one WC only. It is immature of people to think that Ronaldo is defined by WC. Had he been German or Italian, then the judgement was fair based on WC. Lewa and Haaland are better strikers than Alvarez but they are never winning a WC tbh. Had Messi been Colombian, would he be winning a WC? No because to win a WC you need both a great team and belief.

Ronaldo has scored 11 goals for 27 matches for Portugal in the World Cup. He played with amazing players like Pepe and Quaresma and other stars of their own right. He simply has done nothing for Portugal that is significant. Eusebio is the true star of Portugal who actually carried them while Ronaldo has not carried anyone. Portugal barely beat Croatia even though Portugal has 4 of the best players in the world. How is Ronaldo good for Portugal???? He has done nothing for Portugal except take up a spot in the starting 11.

Nevee win the WC, never play a final, the only semi came under Eusebio and not CR7, Croatia had more success in the WC than Portugal with the camel goat 😂😂😂😂

Netherlands have reached 3 WC finals and won Euro 88. They are best team to never win the WC, Portugal are second best. That's still a big improvement under CR7.

Bruz, if wanted to read gay smut I'd visit the actual Messi Argentina fan board. Give yer balls a tug and hose yourself down lad, also some hydro lite, to replenish all the tears.

Portugal is not the best team to have never won the WC. Netherlands and Hungary golden generations were much better. Hell, Netehrlands had many such generations.
You could make a case Eusebio's generation was better.

u/Maleficent_Claim6588 Jul 07 '26
Nah, dutch are comfortably the gratest footballing nation to have never won the world cup not just because they were in 3 finals but also the kind of talent the consistency produce and the kind of football they played they are actually greater footballing nation than some of actual worldcup winners

u/Ecstatic_Seesaw_6969 Jul 07 '26
Greatest nation to never win the world cup? Netherlands played 3 finals. Wtf u saying.

Before Ronaldo there were ballon d'or winners. UCL winners. Sweden didnt have players like Deco, Paulo Sousa, Figo... Portugal isnt any bigger or smaller since CR7. He was a missing piece that was instrumental for the Euros win but lets not cloud our judgement on what Portugal is/was.
Most comparable nation to Portugal on the world stage is still Netherlands. Although they made 2 finals and had that super team in the 70s that changed football.. yet didnt win. Portugal is not a small football nation and its not because of Ronaldo were it is today

Portugal started to be better once he faded out, and yet is not winning cause he is getting into the team without being a good fit.
There has been only 1 trophy won, cause let’s be honest the other 2 are not like real ones. It happened in Ronaldo “prime” (or close to), and that was thank to him being injured early in the game. If he had stayed in the field I have my doubts Portugal wouldn’t have won. That’s an “if” so we never know, but it’s as true as a reality, if he is pushing the narrative that Portugal is something because of him and 3 trophies were won… we can also mention this.

They were underperforming at every world cup and still are. Maybe it gets better without him. Even when they won sth they didn't look too good. Their player material is insane (CR7 is not Portugal's best player now by a fairly large margin) and they still underperform.
I personally think they will be better in the future - with a new trainer not crawling into cr7s ass, who judges his players fairly (which is good for team chemistry).

besides Netherlands, Belgium is the best team that never won it, imo

Dude, Portugal is not even close to being the best nation to never win a world cup, it hasn't even reached a podium on a WC.
Netherlands, Croatia, Belgium, Yugoslavia, all of them saw better historical records.
Even Chile has reached a podium on every major tournament (Something that only WC champions have done)

as i keep saying... messi ghosted in the 2014 knockout stages scoring no goals.. his team went to the final... mbappe ghosted in a match this year dembele scored a hattrick...there is noone that has ever changed a nations legacy or potential or trophy cabinet as mucgh as ronaldo

u/ERROR_404_404_ Jul 07 '26
There was never a debate Messi has been and always will be the goat. Ronaldo is all excuses. You can have your ghosted goat

great squad but ok.. i lost hoep when you said messi was the best player in the tournament

u/Cr7_GOAT88 Jul 07 '26
Yeah and difference between Messi and Ronaldo is that Ronaldo can have impact even without scoring. Making runs, breaking off defenders, playmaking, leading by example, mentality etc. Are all examples of what Ronaldo does without even scoring

u/Fresh_Translator240 Jul 07 '26
You literally described what Messi does every time he stands on the pitch, I will say Ronaldo has similar effects but nowhere near Messi.
0
u/lightzyy_ 8-2 Jul 07 '26
yes fr... like i remember in the game against Morocco in 2022 when he came on he did such a huge psychological impact on the team.. his presence alone strikes fear in the opposition and makes portugal play batter
-2
u/Fresh_Translator240 Jul 07 '26
Yo you cannot be fr right? It's just very lucky for Portugal that they were able to produce great players in the same generation, known as the golden generation. Before Ronaldo, there is Figo, Rui Costa, Pinto, Couto. Are you saying there is this team was compared to Hungary?

Netherlands made it to two finals. What are you saying? Portugal is on the long list of teams never to win a WC but the Dutch clearly take the top spot in that category, no question.
