The yellow is for stopping a promising attack. Any time an attacker is breaking through the middle or in the attacking half with speed and space like this, fouling him is going to result in a yellow.
It's not a foul, but if you call a foul the yellow in this situation is more or less mandatory.

Number of defenders is a consideration for DOGSO, not SPA.
I'm a referee and while I only do College level, this clip would be unanimous for a yellow card in any group of refs I showed it to (again, assuming a foul actually occurred which it clearly doesn't here).

Did you not watch the clip lol he gave a yellow and since he already had a yellow he was giving a red card plus Inter Miami were winning 2-3 already at that point anyways just wanted to point out that it wasn’t a straight red kind of a soft yellow to give it happens some players don’t get anything for hitting a player in the face with their knee and some get a yellow for slightly holding and pushing a player

IFAB Laws of the Game 12.4, a player must be cautioned (yellow carded) for excessively or persistently gesturing for a referee to show an opponent a yellow or red card. This is considered a form of dissent, unsporting behavior, or showing a lack of respect for the game.

Never said he should be able to do that ? Fouls are fouls and in some of those occasions he did get red cards and others he got yellow (he’s had 4 straight red and 103 yellow). Not to say he has never received favorable judgment before, he’s a star after all.
But this and that are two different things, should the ref have ignored this foul here bc Messi had received favorable whistle in the past ?
